Here ya go - here's the dremel in action (albeit the other end of the cooler) - viewtopic.php?t=82656
and here's the other part of the fix, if needed/appopriate : viewtopic.php?f=2&t=113332
My guess (and it truly is just that cos I've not had my head under to have a look) it is that it's one of part number 4B3317816B, 4B3317815B, 4B3317816A
No question to doubt your garage - Despite being able to do most things myself, sometimes I just can't be arsed, so I have a local place I use too and they're awesome. But I especially wouldn't use a main dealer for this - it'd inevitably be new OEM cooler & hoses all round.
And my reservation about all of this - your garage are probably sick and tired of internet superheroes like me telling them how to do their job! I can only promise that I've built/broken/rebuilt/broken/started from scratch again enough things to have a fair idea of what I know and what I don't. But there's always also other ways to do things, and that's fine too - so the message to them is to just be really really careful unbolting the union from the oil cooler itself.
Is this coolant??!

Re: Is this coolant??!
As Matt said, the dremel cutting approach does work - I have saved my oil cooler by cutting and then fitting OEM pipes straight back. Softly softly gets the monkey with this one.
Here was my oil pipe so you know what they are probably fixing!

It'll almost certainly be one of those 2 unions you can see in that pic that's leaking.

How's you get in with this? Were you lucky, or unlucky?Jonno1888 wrote:Thanks Matt, this is great advice really grateful
Apparently - the garage I have it at now says its just a leaking pipe, and the part is £130 approx plus labour, so I guess that is a reasonable outcome. Although half of me after reading your post just now, wonders if they actually know what they are doing. I've used them before for a few years for general servicing, but not for my RS, it just happens to be there now and they say they can fix it.
Ill see what happens tomorrow when this part is in
Thanks again
