Oil all over my drive way :£(

Post by marmite » Fri Feb 12, 2010 12:18 pm

woke up this morning to oil around the front door, nicely washed with the rain last night.

quick look underneath and it appears to be from the o/s/f area

In the house suit off..old trackey on and she is jacked up and under tray off, under holds about .5 litre of oil!

Oil cooler pipe split

No worries I thought I got Audi warranty......not covered!

So looks like I have to get my hands dirty again

Anyone know if it is a pig of a job?

Will find out Monday if I get a chance to play

Warranty won't cover the work if it is caused by corrosion.

I had the same problem last year with mine and the warranty wouldn't cover the pipes but did cover the cooler which, as previously said, fails when the tube unions are spannered. My warranty claim covered everything but the supply of the new tubes.

If all goes wrong I will truck it Audi and they can do the cooler under warranty once I lay the pipes correctly

Gave them the heads up already

Warranty Direct wouldn't pay for mine when it was leaking. You are pretty lucky it didn't pop when the engine was running. The radiator is soft aluminium so easily damaged. It might be an idea to replace both pipes to be safe.

No a bad job to do but as Grizz recomended me to do; Cut the old pipe off at the union, with dremel or similar, and don't crack your cooler by trying to torque it off with a spanner.

So normally, would whoever was doing this replace the oil cooler? So that technique has saved you a few bob then. Good result.

in some cases the cooler splits when undoing the pipes!

The cooler is covered under warranty but not the pipes, hence the job going to Steve

But when I spoke to Audi they said the warranty company came down to look at the car on the last oil cooler job, as they are aware of the issue with removing the pipes. I know the dealer would have not gone to as much trouble to save the cooler!

get her back on saturday
