We use a higher grade of billet material for our single mass flywheel vs Sachs flywheel, ours has a higher coefficient of friction and is harder wearing , and lighter.TimDogg wrote:Grizz - some guys get the Sachs - do you recommend that over the Loba?
We can also supply the Sachs kit, id say at a unbeatable price too, i will add to LOBA website/shop in the new year, we don't actively push as feel ours is a better option.

I had a very occaisional slow returning clutch although no feeling through the pedal, mentioned it to the Dealer and they replaced the clutch return pipe FOC. However, if anything this has made the problem worse and my car now has an occaisional sticking pedal which is a horrible feeling when driving the car. From this experience I would not assume that doing the CRP alone would cure a sticking pedal.

TBH i think most people have stated that changing the CRT hasnt made any difference to a sticking pedal - but if you got it done FOC then no harm done.
Only thing that fixed mine was a new Dual Mass Flywheel and Clutch - my fly wheel had given up the ghost big time, clutch was only 60% worn, Garage had a nightmare getting the flywheel and sprocket out is was than nackered.
Mine was sticking every sprinted drive, and was very slow to return with normal driving.
Other than than i think its the clutch return bearing that causes the sticking clutch.

I wasn't having any issues with regards to the return of the clutch pedal, but did find it virtually impossible to get the car into first or reverse. So to the stealers it was, I instructed them to check the less expensive potential causes first, bleed the clutch, return pipe stuff like that, no issues were found with them. So gearbox out and new friction plate, pressure plate and bearing fitted, I also had them replace the clutch master cylinder and the return pipe anyway. Car all back together and all good, although I'm €2400 lighter in the wallet!!!
Worth it though!!

What determines if the flywheel needs done and what's the possible impact if you don't do it when replacing the clutch?

Take advice from who ever is doing the job on your car as long as you trust them with regards to the Flywheel condition, I think a worn Flywheel has a bit play in it or signs of excessive wear, there are people on hear that can let you know the specifics. I didn't replace mine when the rest of the clutch was done as the mechanic said it was totally fine, I hope I don't turn out to regret that decision.Reffio wrote:What determines if the flywheel needs done and what's the possible impact if you don't do it when replacing the clutch?
Its the labour costs that kill you, so if the flywheel packs in 6 months down the line it's another gearbox out job, which at an Audi Stealer's will cost you around 8 hours labour which = Mega Bucks.
If the flywheel is seen to be in good condition then it's your call to get it replaced when the gearbox is out or not, I think a new Flywheel is around £700 / £800.

Ok thanks. Definitely seems to be a tricky one with a lot riding on what the mechanic thinks of the condition of the flywheel. Would be gutting not to do it only to be hit a couple of months down the line with another big labour bill to do the job!

So I thought I would update you all
I had the full lot done, flywheel clutch, release bearing,new bolts and return pipe
Flywheel and clutch from loba and fitting by Autotechnica, job done was £1600
Clutch feels a little heavier but I guess it may give over time
Loba flywheel was massively lighter than the oem dual mass flywheel and the Andy at Autotechnica said it was a better assembly than the oem.
I am glad I did everything as although the clutch was not slipping it was nearly worn flat and only less than 1mm left on the clutch

My car is currently with an Audi dealer with the gearbox out awaiting their diagnosis of my sticking clutch pedal. It seems likely that they will agree with me that the car needs a new clutch. Bearing in mind that I have done 4,000 miles in less than 4 months since I bought the car from them what is the likely outcome? Would you expect them to recommend replacement of the flywheel as well?
