Gearbox / diff oil change.

Post by RossDagley » Thu Apr 03, 2014 11:37 am

Bedford Audi just quoted me £376 for the gearbox oil change, and £271 for the rear diff... £646 for an oil change. Mother of god... :bash:

That'll teach me to try and be lazy. £70 worth of Motul Gear 300 75W-90 and a couple of hours this weekend, and I'll consider myself lucky to have escaped an anal raping...

Awesome GTI in Manchester quoted me a £170 for both and they're a very good garage.

Try the TT garage in Kempston ... see a few RS4's in there and bound to be cheaper ... avoid Bedford Audi like the plague.

£646!! geeze. Stealers personified.

I paid £80 for Camberley Audi to do diff and Gearbox and I supplied 5 ltrs of Gulf Competition 75w-90: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-60162-gulf- ... 5w-90.aspx at £70 quid...

bloody hell I'd pay that sort of money in a heartbeat rather than crawl under the car.

Thanks Pete for the heads up on Bedford Audi - could I ask why your view is bad of them? (PM if you prefer). If I'm likely to be ripped off or get poor service I'll move from there immediately to somewhere else. the car is there today for a DRC check so god help me on what the quote is going to come back like if the above is the price of an oil change!

Well they have come back... £2,052! Had to ask them to repeat the price... That's for a single shock and accumulator, including fitting.

I really wanted to keep the DRC but not at that price... :(

We bought an S3 from them a few years back .... horrendous service from both sales & servicing dept ... lied to us point blank .... made up fictitious faults with the car when in for a service .... even when initially collecting the car they hadn't even bothered to tax it .... usual dealer bollox, so wont go back ....... On the other hand Hitchin Audi have been pretty good so far. But for things like diff/box oil any decent VAG garage would do .... VAG tech in Milton Keynes were pretty good too.

You have to be joking. They have no clue at all. Go else where. Book it in at Camberley or similar - someone who knows RS4's and DRC. It may be a train ride back, but as you are realising you have to work a little at ownership. Jack Barclay Audi in Wandsworth is good too.

Camberley did two DRC's shocks at the front, replace the suspension ram as the top pinch bolt was fused between to the two types of metals and bunch of ancillary bolts all in £1400. I received 50% goodwill (can;t guarantee that would happen for anyone else) but either so, each DRC corner part alone is only £233.95 and £300 ish labour inc VAT!!!

That's the one - I opted for £80 Audi as I didn't have a ramp etc.

Gearbox and Diff? If so, there's no maintenance schedule or change interval at all recommended by Audi on Gearbox and Diff for the RS4. They see it as a 'sealed' unit and such there's no service regime for diff and Gearbox. At 40K I changed both mine as I can get a bit anal about oil and fluid changes and and the master tech that did it said he personally would change the oil in both at 40K and the oil was pretty dirty when it came out...

Considering the cost, it can't hurt...
