Tire warning light help

Post by Scaff657 » Sat May 20, 2017 3:16 pm

Just a quick one chaps has anyone ever had this light come on I assume it's a faulty sensor inside the tyre

I've tried resetting it all on the dash i.e. Wheel change
And store new pressures
But it keeps on coming back on ?

If it is one of the sensors how would I know which one to replace

Thanks in advance marc

Can you get access to VCDS? Should be able to tell you what the issue is, and which one it relates to.

Marc, it’s a real faff trying to find out which one is at fault.

The system is quite basic, so doesn't report where they're located on the car using VCDS, so you have to set the tyre pressures and log a base line. Then drop one tyre pressure down, go for a short drive and log the serial reporting the lower pressure. This will show you what sensor serial number you've dropped the pressure on in relation to wheel located on the car. Repeat this up to 3 more times to find out which sensor serial number is on which corner.

I couldn't be bothered with it all, as the sensors have a finite life of around 7 years and if yours are still the originals, then they've done extremely well to last until now. I just got 4 new sensors fitted and sorted it that way. Alternatively you can just code them out with VCDS and do away with the system entirely.

If you need a hand, I have VCDS and can help sort it out. You know where I am

Where are you based. I have a diagnostic tool that can read the sensors individually and look at remaining battery life.

Cheers guys and thanks Sam may have to take you up on that offer as I'm going to the ring in 2 weeks time and this warning light is doin my head in

I would prefer to resolve the issue rather than delete it

As it's alwAys good to know if pressure is running low

Simon I'm in West Sussex also would be good to see which sensor is faulty so I don't have to take every wheel off lol

No worries Marc, coding it out only takes a few minutes but getting it 100% sorted is always the better option.

If there is a cross through the tyre symbol then it is a TPMS issue rather than a flat tyre. As others said VCDS can help here - mine did the same and all 4 tyres weren't reporting so I changed the antenna (which lives behind the back bumper) and this fixed it (very easy swap out) but you need VCDS to determine if is a TPMS sensor that has failed or the whole system.

I am in Poole and/or Hampshire if helps ?

Really appreciate all your help chaps as you can imagine it's very frustrating :?
I've got the car booked in at qst this Friday now as I need the issue resolved

I'm hoping it's just a faulty sensor

So should only be looking at £100 for part plus a bit of labour :drink:

I would hope for the antenna personally and I it seems these are reaching an age on our cars. The antenna is a really easy swap and I think was about 70 from Audi.

When I took mine apart it was wet and corroded inside so the seal must have given up.
