is the RS3 big enough with wife and kid ?

Post by turbo roro » Sat Oct 20, 2012 11:24 am

Hi mates,

Coming from A4 ALLROAD, do you know if this car is big enough for the stuff of a small family (1 kid) ? particulary the back seats and trunk ?

Thank you very much !

Well, it will be smaller in the boot than your Allroad, but the seating should be fine.

Do you regularly fill the boot of your current car?

I wouldn't want to go away on holiday in the 3, the boot is OK for a weekend. I'd prefer the size and comfort of something bigger.

So, yes, you could manage, but it might do your head in. I'd suggest trying one for size with family.

There is just me and wife, but we can go away for the week with the RS3. I think that with 3 you might struggle on those journeys unless you had a roof box, which would be my suggestion. Get a car with roof rails and you are sorted.

I take the whole family out at the weekend in the RS3. That's wife and 3 kids, loads of room inside with regards to seating but would take the wife's car if we're going up to the cottage.

Seats are perfectly comfortable, but the ride is undeniably hard.

Have you driven one?

Can they not find a demonstrator anywhere?

I don't think I'd buy it without trying one - but applies to any car.

I don't find the ride that hard. I've been in many cars that are harder but I guess everyones different and depends on the quality of the roads.

I have the bucket seats and find them not too bad for comfort.

The 3 will be fine for the cabin space and the boot is ok. I have an a4 too which has more boot space but if you are pushed it is 5 minute job to put on a roof box if you need more storage .
As for the ride, it is undeniably firm, but felt it is much better than the S3 which I felt was harsh in comparison.
Great all round car though.

I have a wife and a 3 year old, we all fit in ours fine :)

I had an RS4 before this and find the RS3 more spacious, purely because of the estate type back, you can pile stuff high!

Remember you can always put the split rear seat down if you need extra room with a little one in a chair in the back?

My partner has an A4 convertible and I must say thats a night

mare to use as a family car, hence the reason for an RS6. Well thats what I am telling her anyway.

Its ok on smallish journeys but I am a big bloke and with the kiddie seat in the back it does get cramped.

Not sure how it compares to an RS3...so a pointless post really.
Been there and done that.
