Great car, rubbish stereo!

Post by S4_kiwi » Tue Aug 21, 2012 10:58 pm

Hi I've recently got my hands on a nice B6 S4.
Its got a Miltek, sports cats and has been lowered.
I'm very happy with the car, apart from the stereo.
At some stage it has had RNSE retrofitted, which is great to use but the sound is pretty poor. Its got the standard non-bose speakers.
I'm not big into the car audio scene, I just want a nice sound.
Can anyone recommend some decent speakers and a sub that will go in the factory enclosure on the parcel shelf. WIll any of this need an amp?

Cheers

If you have the stomach for it you could retrofit the Bose setup, you can often pick up the components on eBay. You may be able to find a B6 at the wreckers with all the bose kit too. Failing that go speak to an decent Audio Shop and they should be able to advise appropriately depending on your budget. It won't cost the earth to improve the setup.

Think audi set up uses low ohm speakers so you have to do a full install if changing.
As our far away friend above says, you can always check ebay or scrap yards.

I've got the bose in mine and its not great either. The fronts and rears are 6.5 so no difficulties getting something to fit. Its sub and running power to a new amp in the boot thats going to take time. Saving replacement later I am going for a SOT cable so i can plug into the existing loom connector into the BOSE amp so I dont have to cut the loom.Thought about the RNS-E but think I am going for a more modern Sony 601BT so I can plug the phone in with its functionality and also add usb.

Just googled that head unit! Looks pretty impressive! I was thinking about RNSE but they are nearly 600GBP in South Africa? Any idea abt 601's cost?

Hi guys

My first post after lurking for a while.

I've just fitted a Kenwood DNX 4210 DAB to replace the standard radio cassette cd player. Its pretty new to the market and pricey but is a DAB tuner, CD player, Sat Nav unit that accepts Bluetooth from your phone. It also has FM radio and a few other gizmos like being able to take a USB and accept other inputs.

Its a little bit gimmicky with a changing colour background until I found how to turn it off, but other than that it does everything I want (all of the above in one unit)

cheers

Guy
