De-coking....

Post by vestax32 » Wed Jul 04, 2012 8:42 pm

Is there anyway of telling if the car needs de-coking? One Im buying has 62000 miles, full dealership history. Wheres the best place to have it done near Oxford? How much will it cost?

MRC is nearest. All RS4's at that mileage could have a decoke and you will see some difference, how much vs the cost of being done is the question that can't really be answered by anyone but you.

MRC are just down the road from you in Banbury
They'll rolling road it and give it a general health check for around £80
Could he the best £80 you'll ever spend as there's plenty of 'little things' that could he out, but cost you a fortune to rectify
Chances are that at 60k miles, it'll certainly benefit from a decoking
MRC will do a full decoke for around £1k and AMD do another service for around £500. Both have seen great results on here
Are you buying the car through Audi Approved used scheme ?

Near Abingdon. Not buying from Audi, but does have 2 yrs of Audi all component warranty left that will be transferred to me. If I can prove coking would a de-coke be covered by warranty?!

Im just down the road in Swindon, so if you want to come and see a freshly decoked car to compare, then give me a shout
Decoking isn't covered by Audi warranty, although the warranty itself is worth its weight in gold

My view is that it's crazy to get hung up on coking.
It's a fact if life with a b7 and nothing you an do.
I ha mine decoded pure because the manifold flaps failed and I needed a new one. So whilst the manifold was off might as well clean it.
As you see from the recent vid of the rs4 at a track and if you go to a rolling road you'll see tons of debris come flying out after some prolonged high revs.
In the patent for DI VW mentions that the deposits are not resistant to hear so a good run to get some high temperatures into the engine coupled with full airflow through the manifold should limit the damage.

Mrc health check a great idea - a vacuum issue is more likely to give you a drop in power.
