LED Interior lights

Post by el_ringo » Sun Nov 20, 2011 5:13 pm

I remember a thread a while back about upgrading the interior lights, but don't recall if anyone actually did.

Has anyone put LEDs inside the car? Do any of the units dim up and down like the regular incandescent bulbs?

I recently renewed the sidelight LEDs and they are a good 2-3 times brighter and whiter compared to the old ones I fitted two years back, and thought why not change the lot? I also might do the fogs in LEDs, because they are next to useless, and would look smarter (not that a drive around with them on).

Does anyone know what bulbs you need so I can look at replacements on http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/?

i used the spec list from here for my B7, led make a huge difference to the interior, much prefer white light to dim yellow

have a look at the bulbs tho as some shine straight out and some shine out the sides, the rear interior ones needed side shining if you get me same as the front, but yours could be different on a 6.

I've replaced my bulbs, there are two different sizes which is a pain in the arse. The two in the front are bigger then the middle and rear. Just measure the bulbs and order the equivilant LED. They do make a big difference, although I don't think they've bothered with sorting out a soft power version yet. So your stuck with on or off. The next stage is to get directional bulbs to replace the reading lamps.

I spoted a car the other day that had bright LED number plate bulbs, maybe the next upgrade.

Just being a worryguts as I am about to order a whole load of these to do all the majority of the interior lights as well as the rear numplate lights. Do I need the "This Bulb will stop (most) Bulb Warning (Can Bus) errors without the need of special load resistors" style bulbs for the interior or can I use the same dumb standard style ones as the ones I am getting for the rear plate? I no I would be getting soft on/soft off etc thanks :)

I have a full set in mine, apart from the reading lights. Really need to find something suitable for them at some point. I've also got the number plate sorted to. All looks very good. To help you on your way I do have some spare's I ordered a large number of the wrong type so could send you a couple if you like. There are two sizes of bulb needed.

Cheers

Cheers Garry. I have to order some anyway so dont worry about sending any. However, did you order just boggo standard 37-38 mm ones and 42 mm ones or did you get the error cancelling ones?

I have taken the bulbs out and you have 42mm ones in the 2 fronts, 37 mm ones in the footwells, 37mm ones in the middle (rear) and 37mm ones in the boot (Avant)
