Rs4 Tyres
Rs4 Tyres
Hi,
New to the board -
I have a 2006 RS4 Avant - which was a great plaything to have when living in London to use at the weekends, I have now moved to Milton Keynes the land of roundabouts wehere it is getting alot more use, positve and negativefor obvious reasons!
Now the endless roundabouts in MK are means we seem to be chewing through our tyres.
I am not a petrolhead and not a purist so considering I like to have a bit of fun with the car but the performance is not the be all and end all to me will I notice a huge difference by being cheap and putting Cooper Zeon tyres (at £150 a corner) instead of Pirelli P-zero (at £250)????
THanks
Mike

Re: Rs4 Tyres
I would never put a budget tyre on any car of mine.
Re: Rs4 Tyres
I would be carefull buying very cheap tyres but verdstine are a good tyre rated by alot of members the pirelli are carp stay away from them short life and very bad tramlining you can get goodyear F1 for around £190 the verdstine about £175 both good tyres but you pay your money and makes your choice but the tyre is one of the single most important componants on the car i'm running Michelin Super Sport at the moment and i will see if they are worth the extra money

Re: Rs4 Tyres
Reading the tyre tests in any decent car magzine shows that "unknown" brand tyres have much longer stopping distances and much less resistance to aquplaning = you're more likely to have an accident.
I wouldn't put a lower price limit on tyres, I'd go for a known and respected manufacturer (but make sure you get XL reinforced tyres as the RS4 is a heavy car).
Why not look at the Falken FK-452 or Kumho ECSTA if you really want something budget? Anyone got any experience of either of those?
I went for the Vredestein Sessanta and they're proving to be a good buy.
Second the negative comment from Brooner about the Pirellis.

I look at tyres in the same way as I do race crash helmets. Buy a cheap one if you have a cheap head.
Pirelli are crap... For a top end performance tyre - they are still well above any budget tyre.
If you are only replacing two tyres then i personally don't like mixing and matching.

Re: Rs4 Tyres
I paid £162.00 for my Vreds (supply only). My 2nd set and find then very competent particularly in the wet and they are great in the snow.
They're not the quietist as far as cabin noise goes but I've had no problems with them.

Re: Rs4 Tyres
Not sure if you have Falken ZE-912's over in UK? They're better than the FK-452 in wet but suffers from quick wear. Good and cheap but unfortunately doesn't last as long.
Re: Rs4 Tyres
Always found FK452's very noisy in the cabin when I had them on my S4 on 19" Sportec's, the noisiest tyre I have had and not confidence inspring in the wet out of;
Bridgestone REO50's
Goodyear F1 GSD3's
Goodyear F1 Assymmetrics
Michelin PS2's
Continental SC3's
Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta's
On to my second set of Sessanta's so for the budget you have and ensuring an excellent all round tyre for general non-track use with excellent longevity they are probably the best you can get.

Re: Rs4 Tyres
Well as one was in a desperate need and needed to be done today I could not get hold of falkens so have gone for the continental sport contact 3 a bit more but got pitched hard!!!!!
Re: Rs4 Tyres
Can you take them back? Honestly, they are what my RS came with; great for 5k miles but then fell of a cliff in terms of grip and did not inspire confidence in the wet. Admitedly some 4 years ago now so they may have improved construction but I'm not a fan.
