Hello and help please

Post by quattrun » Tue Jun 21, 2011 9:05 pm

Hello All,
...great forum you have here!

I'm considering my options around replacement of the 911 & family A4 with a single vehicle.
We need an estate for my parters' business and general lugging (I know the boot on the saloon is huge, but need the added practicality that comes with the avant).
4wd is not essential, but having had this on our current cars and enjoyed the benefits I'd like to keep it.

So, I've arrived at the conclusion that the RS6 is the way to go...

I've spent a good deal of time digging around and finding as much as I can, but I have some blanks that I hope you folks can help with...

It seems that there was a facelift (2009MY - sept 2008 onwards).
The main difference is the change to 3G or HD MMI for the nav unit - is this true, or is there something else?
All saloons are new spec (academic, as I'll be after an avant)?
There are avants registered after the 2009MY change that are previous spec?

There was a subequent minor change - the thing I've spotted is a change of design for the starter button - this seems to be on 2010 cars.

I'm not so bothered about the Plus version

Can anyone shed any light on all this?

Does anyone have a pdf (or otherwise) version of the audi brochure, specifications and price lists - ideally the last version - so I can look at what was available and cook up my preferred spec, and discover for myself the answers to silly questions like 'which is the best leather - Valcona or Nappa?' etc etc

I've got a pretty good idea already, but it's always useful to have this kind of infor so that I know if I'm being sold a standard item as an extra!

So far, I'm setting my sights on:
2010 (or last version)
Black with black standard seats (nappa or valcona?) and carbon inlays
Ceramics (if poss, but not a deal breaker)
Titanium wheels
Advanced key and parking
Privacy glass
Factory delimit
...and that's where my knowledge runs out - if I list anything else you folks will start laughing at my list of 'standard equipment' :D
I'm one of those people who wants a totally standard, unmodified and unmolested vehicle.

Thanks in advance for any help - I'm looking forward to joining the fold!

Go for a car thats as late as possible.
Although there may be only a handful of cosmetic changes such as the starter button and 3G MMI, theres quite a few improvements underneath, such as redesigned oil return pipes, updated security on clocks, revised wiring loom, updated headlights etc.
Basically any teething issues they found in the early production cars have been fixed in the later ones.

Thanks folks.
I've got a friendly dealer with a full set of brochures, so most of my questions are answered.

...of course these don't have details of things like oil return pipes, so thanks for that!

What's the concensus on valcona vs silk nappa? Valcona is a more expensive option on the standard A6, and it's the leather used for Audi Exclusive on the RS6 (and Plus). But I've been told conflicting thing's about ease of care for the leather, and then there's the matter of sagging stretching leather.

Any views?

stick with the silk nappa in black. its the best leather combining durability and comfort. looks nicer too. just be mindful of the usual zips and sharp buttons on side bolsters....i doubt your as paranoid about what your passengers wear before they enter....i give them a flight debrief before hand....loool.
