There has been much discussion on the subject of warranties recently. I have been reading with interest. My Audi/Mondial warranty expires on 5th Feb and I have been weighing up the options. I've come down to these:

1. No warranty - slush fund
2. Renew Audi/Mondial with £100 excess @ £1294
3. WarrantyDirect:

• £ 775 Luxury cover
  £ 75 (to cover sat. nav., cats, airbag, emissions)
  £ 60 inspection (mandatory)
  £ 104 RAC/Audi breakdown
  £1,014 Total

(£50 excess)

Of course, it's the claim history that counts with any insurance policy so I would be grateful if people would post which policy they have, whether they have claimed or not AND whether the claim was honoured. Notes on the value of the claim and the smoothness of the transaction would also be useful.

I'll start:

Audi/Mondial extended warranty (provided by dealer with approved used RS4 B7).

New Clutch switch - totally smooth, no problems. Don't know the value of the claim.

New front DRC x 2 - Mondial at first tried to wriggle out of one part of the claim - not the DRC itself but an associated part. I called them directly and they backed down. Claim honoured in full. Don't know the value of the claim.

Offside exhaust flap sticking and grinding. Not covered by policy - claim rejected.

option 2 wins hands down

you havent taken into account the less hassle of Audi warranty (i.e. dont have to pay then claim back) and the added resale value to your car if selling privately

Yep, I think I'm coming to that conclusion too. I want claims data though... useful for us all I think.

god, on my RS 6 is was endless, then Bam_Bam took it on and has had millions more claimed ... I recon that RS 6 easily had £20k worth of warranty (Mondial) work in its life time

Agree with dk, 2 is better than 3 at those prices. But personally I'd go with 1 (because I only do low miles).

I actually got some other warranty thrown in when I bought my car, it was meant to be £900 for life of the car ownership, but its got a £2k max in a single claim clause. I havent paid any attention to it as its probably useless, but I couldnt get anything else extra chucked in so had it anyway!

Slightly off topic, but how do you go about getting an Audi/Mondial warranty if your car hasnt currently got one? Are the prices the same?

Same as. If I was in the fortunate situation to own a three year old RS6 and wanted to extend the warranty, it would be Audi warranty.

However, doing no more than 5k a year in my old B6, I prefer to self insure like Steve. The biggest likely costs with an 03 S4 are clutch (& flywheel), aux rads, starter motor, then the usual consumables like brakes, tyres and servicing. Higher milers may also need suspension/dampers and cam chains. No warranty would cover even one of these costs?! I'd rather stick a grand a year in a savings account, and even if after five years I've had an unexpected 2k bill [that would have been covered by warranty], I've still got 3k change to put towards my C6 RS6....

When I brought my 6 I had a 6 mth warranty thrown in didn't expect to use it but did and shock horror it paid out not once but 3 times and a 4th claim is pending It has now expired and am now with WD.

ECU failure would be quite unusual on an Audi - and bloody expensive I imagine. Starter motors and alternators are covered? Guess it depends on the warranty / named / excluded components.

Ok so i have a different opinion

I went with WD after a year with Audi extended.

Mine cost me £750 back in June.
£0 excess
0% pay monthly - cancel anytime
Luxury cover - think it is called prestige now?
Emissions, Catalytic Converters, airbags, satnav and ICE all added as at no extra cost

No claims so far. I know a few members recently have joined and have got all the extras added for £775 once they quoted my policy.

The statement that you have to pay then claim isnt always true. My local dealer has a link direct with WD just like Mondial but i understand it is software dependant, so claims can be settled directly but i would check with your local.

My experience with Mondial was not great.
Claimed for exhaust flap not working - denied
Claimed for airbox flap (no kick at 5k revs) - denied
Claimed for seats not holding bolster inflation - claim denied
Never had a successful claim. Various abuse on the phone, blaming dealer, saying they were lying etc etc

This is my experience anyway.

Hindsight is great but i have a difficult decision to make come June - at moment siding with not renewing - DRC 5 yr is up too
