Anyone thought of these for the RS2? I seem to have the discussion with myself every winter, so I may as well have it with anyone else willing to join in. I think it probably means getting a new set of wheels or 'rims' as I believe is the current vernacular (leading me to be rather confused about the 'rim wax' advertised in the back pages of a magazine recently - evo, of course). If so, that's probably a bit too much of an expense, but a trip to visit family in Munich last week showed again how good they are - and how an overnight dump of snow makes little difference. I imagine they will some day be required here anyway.
Anyone else go through this every winter?
Winter tyres
Yes, I've got a second set of wheels - although you can take off and re fit tyres many many times without issue.
I went for Nokian WR G2 which are an all season tyre rather than a full on snow tyre. Just a hunch, but I figured they would be better suited to the conditions we see most winters.
Did a run to Norfolk yesterday, back today and they're much much safer than Eagle F1's. You can stop and turn on snow, slush and ice.

They were also half the price of other top 5 rated tyres. I got them for £115 each fitted! 225/45/R17

I have been struggling to find some winter tyres for the RS2 for the past month - and not prepared to pay the likes for £200-250 a tyre for premium brands that were half that before the winter!
Yesterday I got some Nankang SV2's fitted in 215/45/R17, bought for £62.50 each from www.mytyres.co.uk and the difference is astounding. I am no longer tip-toeing around feeling at the mercy of every dip and camber change in the road when it's slushy and ice, the car is sure footed and reacts well to any input regardless of road conditions. They even perform well on clear roads, albeit with slightly worse fuel consumption.

Hi All
Happy New Year!
I live in the French Alps and drive from 1250 m altitude to 1850m every day (and down again in the evening!) so obviously snow tyres are essential. It's the quality of the rubber that makes the most difference and that depends upon the age of the tyre. A perfect, nearly new, top quality make that is 4 years old is completely useless. I use the tyres for 2 Winters maximum for a tyre that is made in the summer preceding the first Winter. The best make so far are Dunlop and Nokian. Vredestein are also a good bet.
It is a good idea to have a spare set of wheels to be able to change when you like.
