Sorry to be a pain, some newbie questions.

Post by ARSEY4 » Mon Nov 29, 2010 4:25 pm

1) Can you get a protector strip to go along the length of the bumper so you do not scuff the bumper when loading?
2) Is it possible to buy new exhaust tips, any idea of cost.
3) Where is the cheapest and best place to buy OEM wheels?
4) Can you tint windows retrospectively and how do they do it? Its not with an adhesive film as you see on chavvy cars with air bubbles in?
Many thanks and sorry to keep asking so many questions. :)

1 I would imagine so but don't know if it'd be audi specific or generic
2 Yes, not sure on price
3 keep an eye on the fs forum as the come up from time to time
4 Yes, it's just a film but a professional will not leave bubbles

E9x 330 msport convertible - going soon

I got fitted rear sunblinds. Gives the look of tinted windows but with none of the hassles.

3) He goes by the name Monty & is based in Germany, but well known on the Audi forums; being a previous customer I can also vouch for him.

Can definitely get the rear sill protector from Audi for the Avant as I bought one (std B7), easy to apply & almost invisible in use

I would imagine the cost, having to find a reputable tinting company, then booking itin and being without the car whilst done, maybe having to drop it off, pick it up later/ next day, inconvienience of travelling maybe to the company if outside local area etc etc. Ok so maybe not a hassle, but could be.

Okay, thanks. I thought he was talking about hassles of having tinted windows rather than getting them done.

Re: Window tinting, depends also on plod's attitude around where you stay.

Personally, I would want all rear and front side windows done. I think B pillar back looks wrong and half finished.
A subtle tint shouldn't attract too much unwanted attention from the Police but too dark and they can make you remove them at the roadside.

Last car I got tinted was back in 1998 and that was with Pentagon in Glasgow when I opted for the 2nd darkest; Midnight.
Back then there wasn't really a law as such and you could more or less do what you wanted - except tint your windscreen of course.
These days I think even the light smoke tint (in front of B pillar) is straying into the wrong side of the law but it seems almost pointless fitting anything lighter than Smoke.

The only other hassles are down to that it's easier to remove, no chance of bubbles or film wearing due to the windows being used.

Also cheap at 70quid for both sides (B pillar back) and rear screen.

I got my aluminium boot trim vinyl wrapped, and can vouch for pentagon glass, they removed my front window tints (being illegal and on when I bought the car) did a cracking job
