Is Digital TV going say goodbye to our TV's!

Post by coullboy » Fri Sep 10, 2010 11:52 pm

Guys up here in rainy Scotland we are in the process of losing our analogue tv signals and its on its way to you. This will be the end of our little TV's unless someone comes up with a solution. Does anyone know of way round this or is that the end of TV with the RNS-d? What are we going to do when the wife is in the shops?

DVD, ipod, playstation. God forbid, you could even use your RS6 to drive around in ;)

Who needs TV? :)

You can replace the TV unit with a DVB-T compatible one. Costs about £600, but I'm not sure whether they're RNS-D compatible, might have to get an RND-E at the same time.

I like DK's idea. Fit a 50" plasma. Plenty of room if you've got an avant :)

Seriously though, nothing stopping you getting an aftermarket freeview tuner and using the aux inputs on the RNS-D (or E). Something like this:

which I just picked at random. Don't know if it's any good or not. Plenty of other brands though. I have an alpine tuner in mine.

You might be better off trying to get one with an RF remote rather than IR for which you need to point the remote at a receiver.

Never mind, looks like they are all IR.

Don't buy Zenec they are crap! Alpine is good and CKO have just released a new one that should be very good.

I think the next step for me would be to wire in something to be able to watch movies from my iPhone. Shouldn't be too difficult. I can't really ever see myself being bothered though.

You can get TV streamed to the iPhone, I believe. I put DVDs on my iPhone for long flights, etc. Could work just as well in the car with an AUX output.

Yes, you can add a input to the factory Audi TV tuner then just buy this cable from apple http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MB129 ... TEyNjE0OTU

I have done it on my van and it works a treat, use this to get freeview http://iphone.tvcatchup.com/
