Do all B7 RS4s have DRC as standard

Post by Undiez » Thu Jul 08, 2010 9:47 pm

Hi all,

Please excuse my ignorance but I was reading the posts on this forum and it looks like the DRC issue can effect all of our B7s

I wanted to check before I chase up my dealer and get the history on mine.

A bit of research seems to show that to be the case.

Many thanks anyone.

DU

Yes, all B7 RS4's have DRC as standard, but some people have swapped to aftermarket KW's

I thought DRC was optional on non-UK cars?

Standard on all production RS4's DRC with SS+ was the option.

I stand corrected - wow that's some big warranty liability if it's global and every RS4 sold!
After the RS6 issues it amazes me that they've left themselves open to these costs - Stephan Reil needs to sort his suppliers out.
Having said that Audi may pass the costs onto the manufacturer of the parts

There are some on here who will say the problem only affects less than 1% of cars. So not such a big deal then.

So roughly 60 cars in the uk (6000 ish UK supplied).....em, think its more than 1% that has had DRC problems.

They didn't just use the same system, the DRC was modified for the RS4 and strengthened (gen. II) but as has been seen was still prone to occassional failure so now the replacemet DRC you get when you do have an issue with gen II is generation III

My 32k miler had "misting of oil " on a shock when MOT'd in Dec 09 so only a matter of time.
I suppose speed humps etc accelerate the chance of DRC problems but I bet every RS4 driven in the same way will have the problem arise at same mileage.
Having owned a hard riding B7 S4 I do appreciate what DRC does but hopeless dealer workshops and big repair bills taint a car's images.

The bigger issue as shown by our recent Euro Tour is how crap UK raods are. Even alpine passes at 9000 ft were billiard table smooth and the Autobahn/route's/ strada's were brilliant.

Compare to what we have to put up with it it no surprise some cars have DRC issues whereas our European counterparts do not have as many I suspect.

That's two big "IF's"...

1) it's not global as others have said, it seems to be greatly dependent on the quality of the roads - so it's worse in the UK & US. There are rumours (again) of AoA doing a DRC recall in the US.

2) even in the UK & US it's not every RS4 sold. 1% seems low to me but I certainly wouldn't put it as high as even 10%.

Excellent news, this will remove doubt for prospective RS4 purchasers.

Well done Audi, better late than never.
