Keyfob

Post by lindowkid » Sun Feb 21, 2010 11:45 pm

I have a second key that I suspect hasn't been in use for a few years. It starts the car and the car doesn't imobilise but the remote locking and alarm seems dead. I've changed the battery and tried all the recoding proceedures o the forum apart from the odd one about locking the passenger door with the key in the ingnition that I just couldn't work out. Anyone any thoughts can you wake these things up / are there any other batteries concealed in the circuits ?

I had a similar problem a few weeks ago and looked at the threads on the forum (I was a bit confused about the passenger door one too), but I did this and it sorted mine out ok.

1. used remote on good key to open door
2. put dud key in ignition and turn on and leave for about 6 seconds
3. turn dud key off and remove from ignition
4. get out of drivers seat, shut door and put dud key in door and manually lock door
5. use remote on dud key and the door then unlocked remotely

key now locks and unlocks door remotely, job done. worked for me anyway. good luck

Were the contacts clean on the battery terminals? Try cleaning them with alcohol.

The key resync procdure is a bit weird. I did mine the other day, you have to keep trying until it works.

Try this with the car initally locked, then unlocked if that doesn't work. I think mine was unlocked.

1. Press the open button then the close button on the remote
2. Lock / unlock the door with the key
3. Try the remote now

When we do this at the dealership, we do it a different way.

We put the "dead" key in the ignition and turn the ignition on. The press the unlock button on the remote a few times in succession. Now turn off ignition and remove key. Close door and try remote to lock doors - it should now work.

That's what I used to do as well. In the manual it says to do it my way. I'm guessing it's because the RS6 can read the keycode from the door lock so key doesn't have to be in the ignition.

No I keep trying, but still not waking up. Might try a different battery but I know the one I used worked in the other remote. I only use the car at weekends so not really had time to fiddle about properly. I wonder if there is a way of waking the unit up other than the above ?

I think I forgot a step in what I outlined above. when the dud key is in the ignition with it turned on, I then manually locked and unlocked the doors a couple of times using the lock/unlock button on the drivers side. you could try that. other than that there might be an option to wake the unit up through vagcom maybe ? otherwise, I'm out of ideas. good luck with it anyway.

Worst case scenario, another transmitter will cost £50

Might be some on ebay. I bet it's your battery though.
