New LED style TV's whats your take

Post by sonny » Fri Dec 25, 2009 8:57 pm

What does every one reckon, worth it or not? They definitely look better and a lot thinner, will look better on a wall for instance. Im not too sure about the 30,000 Hr life span :?

If I hadn't bought a new LG HD last boxing day, I'd be going to buy an LED one today. Picture quality is amazing. Go and look at the screens in the flesh down currys an pc world because they seem to do the best deals every year.

30,000 hrs is 3.5 years non stop use, so even if you had it on for 12 hours every day that's 7 years.

On paper the Samsung looks better spec but I noticed the difference in picture quality varied alot when I saw them lined up in the shop and i just preferred some other others and some looked really good, but the sound was just flat

I bought a Samsung 50" Plasma maybe 2.5yrs ago. Fantastic image clarity and 'blacks'. Would highly recommend Samsung as a brand. Am sure the LCDs are just as good.

Got a great deal on it back then through an internet shop, £1100 delivered!

But as said go check em out.

Yes I have a new Sony Bravia (one ith glass surround) 40''..great picture etc, however im looking at relating that one into one of my bedrooms. and I want a wall mounted TV, reason I never did this before was due to the fact that most TV's was too thick, seeing the LED ones I am rather amazed as to how thin they are.

Interesting, I believe that Samsung got there wrists slapped.

LED televisions as are being mis-named by some manufacturers and mis-sold by some retailers are not fantastic new technology, do not necessarily look better than LCD televisions and should not necessarily command a higher price than non-LED LCD televisions.

This is simplified to keep it brief, but...

'LED televisions' as you might currently find in shops are only LCD televisions with LED backlighting or edgelighting. The LED back/edgelighting technology is somewhat more efficient and can look attractive. Edgelighting technology allows the TVs to be a bit thinner than normal LCD televisions.
Whether you decide to pay a premium price for 'LED televisions' is up to you, but for gawd's sake, don't pay more for one because you think it is fantastic, radically new, superior technology, because it certainly isn't.
