One of my mates is a VAG specialist and back along he had my S4 and an RS4 in on the same day and he said when driving them there was very little in it on normally everyday driving. If you think of the cost of a top spec S4 fitted with a full milltek, RS4 rear sway bar and an MRC remap, it's a very attractive alternative.

A B6/B7 S4, will only put out c360bhp with an exhaust and map, with DPs too maybe 380bhp. That should compare favourably with a B7 RS4, due to their reduced power output woes, as reported.

It's still a V8, and they're veryu good value now, so I'd say get and mod an S4.

Full exhaust, custom map, ARBs, coilies, uprated brakes/fluid, and jobsa good 'un. Will sound just as good as an RS4 too.

There is no comparison, I had a b7 rs4 and when I sold it I got a b6 s4 avant. I only ended up keeping the s4 for about 3 months and went back to another b7rs4. Sorry to say the s4 is just like any other a4 apart from the v8 where the b7 rs4 is a cut above, because at the end of the day with all the modifications in the world you still look like your in an ordinary a4 but the rs4is something special. I know which one I would rather have and it's on my drive now :)

Wouldn't disagree with you at all. An S4 isn't that special, whereas an RS4 definitely is. Everything about it.

However the OP was discussing price as being a factor, so S4 would still get my vote.

As an S4 owner I would agree the RS4 is a special beast but I do see less S4's around compared to the RS4 and the £20k price differential makes the S4 much better value IMHO. Personally the RS variant stands out and is very noticeable to me but maybe less so to joe public and I like the normal look of the S4.

I had x2 S4's and they simply were not special enough and so I had to sell up and get an RS

they also werent that fast, I got outrun by a modded Astra Turbo in my S4 cab

but in terms of value for money, the B6 S4's are extremely good value for money. Bullet proof cars and they look nice (better than the B7 S4 IMO) and the cabin is EXACTLY the same as the B7 RS 4

but more of a cruiser than a bruiser
