PhatNoise PhatBox installation (inc pictures)

Post by TopBear » Fri Oct 23, 2009 4:39 pm

I've seen a few people install the PhatNoise PhatBox and leave a cut-out hole in the cover for the 'protruding' music magazine.
I didnt fancy this, as I use the boot often, and figured it would only be a matter of time before something would hit the exposed magazine

So in here is my PhatNoise PhatBox installation showing that with the help of an angle grinder, a drill and some corner brackets, some patience and about 1hr, the DMS can be made to fit into a standard CD changer mounting bracket, and you can still close over the cubby hole cover, so it's totally hidden and protected.

View from the left showing how much needs to be cut out of the back top right of the cage to allow the DMS to be mounted at an angle

Nice one Topbear, I am too lazy to that also nowhere for the satnav and tv box. I have a bootliner and I rest the cover as if it where in situ and the bootliner lip holds the cover upright. Yes there is a slight gap at the top due to the cartridge sticking out but at least its protected from anything going in and out of the boot.
Ps well documented pics!

Good job. I've had my Phatbox install with the cartridge sticking through the cover for several years and lots of stuff in the boot - never had any problems though.

Anyone sorted out the "buzzing" you get on the C5 cars?

How big is the Phatnoise unit? I have a glovebox mounted CD changer and am thinking or replacing it with one of these so will it fit in the same place?

The huge case does nothing. It's not a heat sink. It's just heavy and bulky. I removed mine and put the Phatbox in my glove box in the space where the 6CD was. This was in my B6 S4.

The location may not suit everyone but if not then rather than hacking things up, just remove the outer and hide it easily in that space you have ;)

I have located my phatnoise on the inside side of the cover nearside cover in the boot. Where the CD Autochanger and TV receiver were, now sits a glorious Carbon water container that is used to supply water to my intercooler sprays and oil cooler, gearbox cooler and lower radiator water sprays...
