hi new s3 owner needs advice about clutch

I have just bought a 51 plate s3 and the clutch has gone is this a common fault and is there anyone within kent who could give me advice

sorry its not the actual clutch but i think it could be the clutch master cylinder or could it be the slave cylinder. this is because as i was driving the pedal dropped and i have no pedal.
could anyone give any advice on this.
