S4 widebody project in progress.......

Post by Ash25 » Sun Feb 22, 2009 2:29 pm

Hi all, just thought this would be of interest to some of you over here....its my widebody S4 project that i have been updating on audisrs. have a look if you have time!

http://audisrs.com/about3404.html

The work is being done by grizz at unit 20 on the wirral near liverpool, and the bodyshop next door to him.

the car is also undergoing a k04 upgrade at the same time, aiming for upto around 450bhp, but will see once all the bits are on.

the project started in nov/dec last year and it looks like its nearly done.....just a few weeks left to finish off the odd bits and pieces.

here are a couple of pics to whet your appetite....

some before pics

And some pics of the car as it is now....

Originally the car was the standard S4 silver, but decided to go for the avus RS4 silver in the end for a subtle change. A few more things need doing, like the front end etc....but most of the bodywork is now done....just waiting for the engine bits and pieces. . . and the new wheels. . .the list goes on but will get there in the end!

I have to say that Martin aka Grizz and Lee at Unit 20 have done a brilliant job so far in sorting out the car and the whole project, would not have been able to do it without their expertise and understanding...mainly coz i keep changing my mind and adding stuff nearly every week! they organised the bodyshop etc, and had to deal with a LOT of questions from them like 'where does this bit go' and 'how do we do this' etc.

All in all they have been awesome, and can't give them enough credit for all the work they have done..i think the car has turned out better than my expectations and its all down to grizz and his dogged determination on all the tiny details that i didn't even think about! (just don't mention sunroof if you ever see him  ).

AND....thanks to you all on here for your brilliant help and knowledge on the s4...been on here awhile searching and searching and also thinking whether it would be worth keeping my s4 or getting an rs4/rs6, but i have now made my decision and hopefully it will be back in my hands in all in transformed glory soon! the users on here have been brilliant and cant thank you enough for your help.

I have mainly been updating the thread on audisrs (the whole story is on there) but i will post up some more pics here once i have them!

Hope you enjoy the pics!

yeah the pics were taken in the bodyshop and the car had LOADS of dust on her so paint was a bit dull under it all, think a good wash or a bit of rain and it will shine!

would be good to see you there even if you dont run....there is still time to get some bits done to yours to justify a rerun on the dyno

hi noccy, cheers for the kind words.

wheels are going to be some OZ superleggera III's, 19" x9 , et 26, might run some small spacers depending on what size tres i get.

don't think the lip for the dish part will be as deep as the pic, but it will hopefully be the finishing touch to the car!

going for an rs4 then? think i have seen you looking for something on srs maybe? looks like a good time to buy one as prices seemed to have dropped loads in the last 6 months, problem is so have the prices for the s4, though not as much as the rs4.

i assume you would stick with the b5? or maybe an rs6?

Well i went over to Unit 20 today to get my car ! ! ! ! ! !

Basically grizz and lee have worked their arses off to get the car all running in time to have its mot today, aaaaaand get it running so i can drive it down to MRC on monday to get the final major engine bits sorted out.

BIG THANKS to grizz and lee for the final push on the last little bits to get it to this stage, it has been a bit of a git for them to sort out the little electrical bits etc so it can pas the mot as i have the facelift centre console conversion and the hazard lights have to be working to pass, so a bit of a 'fudge' with the old switch has been done temporarily to get it to pass. also stuff like the new headlights and variuos connections had to be sorted out quick smart but as usual grizz was brilliant and got it all sorted.

Well the car ISN'T FINISHED just yet, there are a few bits to sort out and finalise after i get back from MRC.

I am getting the new injectors, fuel pump and a remap done at MRC, and also picking up the rs4 recaros while i am there as well, which should look good. the n75 is diconnected so i can drive it down to mrc safely, oh i can't wait for them to do their stuff! the drive home will be good i am sure

there are loads of interior electrical bits still to sort out like the sunroof etc, but the bodywork is mostly done. just need the fogs and grills to be put in etc, and maybe the badges, depending on how i find it without.

aaaaaannyyyy way i got home today and took some pi55 poor pics with my camera before it got dark and then the battery ran out!

Sorry about the pics, the car is pretty dirty and the shots are a bit crap but you should get the idea of what it looks like.

and the new brakes..RS6 calipers with RS4 B5 discs for now...

You can see the bluey/purple in the silver on some shots which i think looks pretty nice. sorry the pics are rubbish, need to borrow a friends 'good' camera, wash and polish the car, get the new wheels, wait for a sunny day, THEN i will take some better pics.

Still have the RS6 reps on, running with some 25mm spacers for now to fill the arches until the new wheels get delivered.

Unfortunately OZ are saying that they haven't got any centre pieces in yet for the wheel they damaged and might not machine any new ones until some more orders are in, which i think is a bit <beep> really. They do have the superleggeras with the black centre pieces in, which i was going to get in the first place, so might switch my order to them. after seeing the car in the flesh i think the slightly different silver would go well with the black centre on the wheels.

The exhaust sounds absolutely AWESOME btw. a bit loud for my street where i live maybe, but i don't care, i just think its amazing. haven't heard it on full chat yet as waiting for the map etc, but it doesn't seem to drone at all on the motorway, just a deep burble in the background.

There is still a few bits left here and there but so far i think its looking pretty good.

Gonna book it back into unit 20 once back from MRC for the final bits, then i think i will finally be out of grizzs hair!

Again BIG THANKS to Martin and Lee at UNIT 20, they have been absolutely spot on, and have done an amazing job in my opinion. If anyone needs something doing to their car, i wouldn't hesitate to take it to these wizards of Audi. :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Will obviously update after i get back from MRC.

Cheers for the appreciation guys, gotta thank grizz on the work, his service has been impeccable!

Well I have been down south to see the lads at MRC for the all important 'tune' and have to say its the icing on the cake with respect to the engine mods done to the car! As usual Doug and the lads were brilliant in their work sorting out what was needed, and all done with great service and were also kind enough to explain bits i had no clue about!

I had bought some RS4 recaros from steve who has the soon-to-be 800BHP RS4 (WOW!!!) who was very kind enough to drop them off at MRC for me to collect....THANKS steve!

Doug fitted the front seats, which was a bit of a ballache as mine were only heated, not electric, so some added wiring, and they are all good to go! Have to say, they are a very good upgrade to the normal sports seats the s4's have. still need to sort out the brackets and stuff for the rear avant seats, but hey its all good for now!

On the engine front, had some injectors, fuel pump, airbox mod and then the obligatory remap done, which transforms the car and 'finishes' off the engine really.

All i can say now is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The car is just brutal! its like a kick in the back when the loud pedal is floored, its just an amazing experience. i had a 330ish bhp car before with the k03's but this is a whole league of difference. Have to say the exhaust howl is LOUD, just how i like it. Doug mentioned it was similar to his, and that a few people might not like it (already met some of them...booooooooooooo) but i like it. might be a tad loud when running around the neighborhood, just have to keep the revs low then:roll: It might sound a bit quieter in the cabin once the rear seats are up, as its very loud back there, but will see in time if it bothers me after awhile.

Doug mentioned the car was maxing out the maf on about 335 ish? which at around 5??? revs should be about 420 bhp if i remember correctly? Think he said it was a pretty aggressive boost around 1.5bar? Have to say i am happy with that, so it could be more once i get it on the RR at Dynodemon. to be honest, this project wasn't about a definitive BHP figure to aim for, just a good reliable power through the revs etc, and see what she gets once its dynoed.

On the way over i had the n75 disconnected to get it to MRC safely, but now its all done, the drive home was brilliant! still had the old seats in the back so din't give it toooooo much welly around the corners as it might damage my new seats etc, bu once they are out i am sure it will be a lot of fun. So the handling comments will have to wait.....but so far it seems to grip the road amazingly well! gonna wait for the new wheels before i play more aggressively with it.

Also due to the exhaust hitting everything on the road larger than a pebble i had Doug raise the suspension as high as it could go until the new wheels are on, but unfortunately this is the only downside so far on the car as it still scrapes on every speed bump here where i live! it looks like its on stilts but the exhaust still scrapes so have to go over them at a ridiculous crawling speed, so this needs to be sorted sharpish methinks as its no fun driving it anywhere i live. grizz will of course come to the rescue here once i get it back to him for the other bits etc.

All in all it was a good day and now the car is getting to the finish line soon!

Thanks to all at MRC for all the work, much appreciated!

Just need to get the centre cosole and bits of wiring to sort out, rear seats, bits of trim etc and the wheels (another story) then i will be done...for now.
