RS6 Battery

Post by langstone » Wed Feb 04, 2009 8:48 pm

Visited the stealers today and they advised I needed a new battery.

I declined their offer of a new battery for £245.00+VAT but think a new battery may be required soon (03 reg) - had a non starting incident a few months ago. Audi assistance (RAC) gt her going and could not find a problem but the stealers said they tested the battery this time and found it needing replacement.

Anything i need to be aware off or can I go to battery specialist for a second opinion/order replacement. ISTR the UR Quattro I had required a special order low profile battery as it was under the rear passenger seat. btw it's for an Avant if it makes any difference.

Regards

Mark

How much!!!!

It will probably be a special case size but a specialist battery supplier won't have a problem getting one
Is it a Bosch battery? if so any Bosch agent could get it

I know its a taboo but you could even try Halfords Just try and get the eldest wiser looking member of staff to ask the question too (probably be about 16 :) )

Had one fitted week before last as it happens. Battery was about £120 I recall, but needed to be 'coded' to the car I was told. Had some other things done, but I think billed amount relative to battery alone would ahve been about £250. So consistent at least.

Mine was becoming slow to turn over (July O4 on original battery) and I too had had a full dead moment in the Autumn. Suspect tyre fitter left ignition on for however long it took himm to change the tyres (including a return to base as one was wrong), so say a couple of hours. Electrics utterly dead, not even a glimmer in the hardly-need-any-current-at-all-to-light-them LEDs and things. So car had decided that voltage was too low to permit any activity. Had to be jumped and took about an hour of driving before the 'comfort' modules were allowed to power up again - things like Auto drop and up on the windows, sound from the radio, sunroof opening etc etc. Thought the car was proper dead.

And then it was fine next time. Loads of errors thrown in VAG-Com, so new battery needed to have all this stuff re-coded I was told.

Either way, fixed now and engine spins like a goodun, even in -7C.

I recently bought a new battery from Audi Dealer, like grizz said it cost about £160-170 all in, personally if you have a wrench set to take off the side housing it is a 20min job, i am not aware of any coding that needs to be done aside from re-entering your RNS security code. It is unnecessary to be charged £100 to have it fitted- takes the piss...

Paid about £160 earlier in the year. Local garage owner tried doing me a favour by ordering similar spec. battery for Touareg from Europarts ( cheaper) but did not fit compartment. Ended up buying battery via dealer but he fitted for free. Shout out for Gerry at Gracie's garage Duntocher ( VAG approved) if you're in Glasgow area. Fired up the VAG COM and checked fault codes free- £ 100 at Glasgow Audi.

Evening gents,

Check this place out...http://www.performancebatteries.co.uk/ they start at about £71 delivered...you cant say fairir, you cant say fairrer, you cant say furirr, you cant argue with that!

The main issue I found when looking was the physical size, it seems difficult to get one long enough (as the actress said to the bishop). My car is left standing for up to two weeks at a time. In the end I bought a battery conditioner which I keep plugged in when not in use.

IF anyone buys one from these chaps do let us know how you go on OR if you manage to find one the correct length (around 390mm I recall) not at a stealer... let us know where from and how much...

Cheers,
Lig.

Fitted one myself, probably the easiest replacement I've ever done - spare wheel well in the boot on the Avant (UK). The battery cost £140 from Whoopee motor factors IIRC but had to go to a main branch to find one that stocked it!

I use a small dash mounted solar panel to help keep the charge up when not being used for a while.

The battery in my 03 Avant started going flat overnight (seemed to trigger the car alarm!), and wouldn't recover even with a battery charger / conditioner. I don't think it was original ... it was wedged in with a small flat piece of wood.

Halfords is very near me, and they found the right one via my reg (couldn't find it when I gave them car make and model) for £97.89. The speed at which the starter turns over is noticeably better now. It'll tide me over till next service (2k miles) at least.

Much much easier to fit than for my wife's A4 cab, which is virtually under the windscreen.

That's how it was on my A6 4.2Q. Under the scuttle panel under the windscreen. Had to take off the rubber, scuttle panel and even then was still a PITA to lean over etc. Because the battery is so heavy, lifting it whilst leant over was a real strain! Both the S8 and RS6+ are in the boot, so miles easier!
