RS4 Rear Brakes - Can you think of anything else?

Post by Bluebrakes » Fri Jan 16, 2009 6:45 pm

I'm hopefully fitting RS4 rear brakes to my S4 over the coming week but I have this sense of doom that i'm forgetting something.

I have the following:

+ RS4 Pads
+ RS4 Discs
+ RS4 brake hoses (came with callipers)
+ RS4 Callipers
+ RS4 Carriers
+ Hand brake cables
+ RS4 back plates

To replace standard S4 rear brake setup.
The rear discs are 312mm standard, which i'm fitting under my standard 17" wheels (well until I can afford tyres for my BBS CH 18"s, That's bloody christmas spending for ya!)

Is this all i need?
Why do they call it rush hour when nothing moves!?!

Standard S4, but not for long.

You will need some brake fluid!

List looks OK to me. Remember to remove the wheel weights as the calipers will be (literally) only 1 or 2mm clear of the wheel.
Take the weights off the spare and possibly the fronts too, there is room to replace weights right behind the Avus spokes

When you fit the handbrake cables at the handbrake end you will smash the piece of plastic and pin (probably) around the ratchet mechanism.
Part Nos. 8D071146301C and 8D0711327B01C (about £8 in total )
Maybe worth getting whilst you are at dealers. They keep them in stock as they are popular!

You don't need to change the cables , they are long enough.

When you say 1 or 2mm clear of the wheel, are you talking fronts or back?

What brake fluid do you recommend?

Cheers!

We are talking about Rear Brakes aren't we?
The clue is in the subject line!
Standard cables can be made to fit, but for a proper job you need the longer RS4 cables as the calipers are much further out than S4 ones due to their puny diameter. That's also why the calipers have only 1 or 2mm clearance from the wheel.
That's why Audi made longer cables for the RS4.

You'd be suprised who didn't read what i said on other forums. ;-)

They fit... It's tight though. However there is a problem.

I spent an hour try to undo and carefully disconnect the calliper hose to the metal line, unfortuantely I have damaged it in the process. I left it for an hour with DWF to soak in to try and get it undone but it wouldn't budge.

Now its fooked.

I'm desperate to find a replacement hose, has anyone got one, know where to get one? Ideally it would be nice to get a spare too.

Its just standard metal brake line. Go to you local factors and buy a roll of copper, some unions and a flaring tool and make up the replacement yourself...

I very much doubt you can even buy parts like that ready made.
