Module 35 Coding for Auto Locking and Safety Central Locking

Post by mylife98 » Wed Dec 24, 2008 3:21 am

I can't make sense of this. If anyone has a logical explanation, I'd love to hear it!

My car: 2001 B5 RS4.

Current central locking functionality: unlock button on remote unlocks all doors and boot and the doors do not automatically lock at 10/15mph.

I want to change these two to two press unlocking (safety central locking) and auto locking at speed.

Currently my module 35 is coded 15178.

********************************
VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-US

Control Module Part Number: 8D0 862 257 E
Component and/or Version: CV-Pump, Alarm, RC D17
Software Coding: 15178
Work Shop Code: WSC 63351
********************************

Simple I thought. Add +4 and +32 per the many other sources of info available on RS246 and some other sites. Also in agreement with this great little programme: http://www.kevin-st.co.uk/tt/codes.htm

To start, I tried changing the code to 15182 (enable safety central locking). The effect was my alarm going off and no change in functionality. Put it back to 15178.

So now I come to trying to understand exactly what 15178 means so I know how to change it correctly.

I think my base coding for a post 1999 B5 A4 Avant with central locking, anti-theft, RF remote and soft-touch tail gate is 13131.

And the standard configuration codes are:

+ 1 Boot Opening via Remote
+ 2 Confirmation Anti-Theft Warning System (Blink)
+ 4 Safety Central Locking
+ 8 Activate Anti-Theft Warning System (Interior Monitor)
+ 16 Automatic Boot Unlocking @5 km/hr
+ 32 Automatic Locking @15 km/hr
+ 64 Window Up/Down w/Remote
+ 128 Right Hand Drive (RHD)
+ 256 Avant Lighting Control?
+ 512 Confirmation Close via Remote (1x Blink)
+ 1024 Confirmation Remote closing (Horn)
+ 2048 Door-/ window regulator logic (operate 10 min with no door open)
+ 4096 Confirmation Unlock Blink (2x Blink)
+ 8192 No Safe-Function
+ 16384 Remote Central Locking: mechnical

Maths: 15178 - 13131 = 2047

The only way to add 2047 to 13131 is to add everything upto +2048 from the list above. (1024+512+256+128+64+32+16+8+4+2+1=2047)

So that makes me think that Automatic Locking and Safety Locking should already be enabled.

Does anyone know where I'm going wrong or what code I should be entering?

Many thanks!

You not only have to get the coding right but there is also an adaptation channel that has to be set.

Checkout the Ross-Tech wiki and website - IIRC there's a page on the website all about this feature.

Can't find anything about the Adaption on Module 35 on the Ross Tech Wiki for Audis - they are all blank.

The Rosstech Guide for Audis says:

35-Central Locks: -- KWP-1281
VAG-COM Works fine (note: pre-'97 A4's may not have this module).

Recode locking options

[Select]
[35 - Cent. Locks]
[Recode - 07]
Enter the coding below
[Do It!]

http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/audiB5.html

The only reference I can find to any adaption setting for module 35 are from a VW Golf (1J) Central Locking (Generation 2):
Channel 00: Remote Control Clearing
Channel 01: Remote Control Adaptation
Channel 03: Auto-Lock
Channel 04: Auto-Unlock
Channel 05: Interior Monitoring
Channel 06: Unlocking Confirmation (Horn)
Channel 07: Locking Confirmation (Horn)
Channel 08: Unlocking Confirmation (Blinker)
Channel 09: Locking Confirmation (Blinker)
Channel 10: Alarm Horn (Country Setting)

But is doesn't guide on settings at all.

And a lot of the articles I seem to come across on the web talk only of adding/changing the code by adding +32 etc. nothing about needing to go into adaptions/channels (all references I find to adaption/channels for module 35 relate to wiping the stored keyfobs and loading new ones).

Are you sure I definitely need to play with channels/adaption to get auto locking working?

Thanks!

Do it one at a time, i.e. saety locking, and auto lock

The channels for the 1J Mk4 don't work for the B5, as the Mk4 uses a central convenience system

My advise would be to code for 15210, and then let me know if auto lock works firstly.

Cheers Virdee.

OK, an afternoon of testing and annoying the neighbours proves this:

Starting code 15178.
Changed to 15210 for autolock only - works perfectly
Changed to 15214 for autolock and saftey open - appears to work for opening doors but alarm goes off when door are first locked and then alarm won't turn off no matter what I do (unlock button, key in ignition, start engine). No fault code recorded in Module 35.
Changed back to 15210 - all fine again
Changed to 16234 for autolock and horn/beep on locking, but no safety lock. Works perfectly, small beep on locking, autolocking works too.
Changed to 16238 for everything. Works perfectly. Have left it as this code.

Thinking through what the differences could be, I wonder if I was making a error with vagcom - when the alarm went off testing on 15214, I hadn't disconnected fromt the module 35 in vagcom - wonder if that was triggering something. In the other cases I had disconnected from the module before turning the car off. Or maybe 15214 is just a conbination that it doesn't like?!

Other notes of interest:

The 10mph/15kph also locks the doors in reversing above that speed!

Also, if I unlock just the drivers door, and drive off, then the dirvers door locks again with the autolock. Then when I stop and remove the key it remembers that only the drivers door was unlocked and only unlocks that door not the whole car. Cool! (The simple things in life!)

Many thanks for youe help all!

OK, by my reading, the safety locking is minus 4. Basically 16234-4= 16230

So try doing that instead of plus 4.

Yes the auto lock feature is great!

Report back!

Tested 16230 - no saftefy unlocking. But 16238 does work. So think it must be +4 on top of 16234 rather than minus.

16238 gives:
Safety unlocking
Autolock at 10mph
and Bleep on alarm set

And on testing that seems to work (we'll see if we make it through the night without the alarm going off! but it's been fine for the last couple of hours).

So I'll leave it on 16238 at the moment. Certainly seems to be doing everything I wanted. We'll just see if there are any side effects!

Many thanks again!

Just convert the 16238 into the bits it represents i.e. 8192 + 4096 + 2048 + 1024 +512 + 256 + 64 + 32 + 8 + 4 + 2

That tells you which options are enabled and which aren't.

Yes there is, look at the Ross-Tech wiki http://wiki.ross-tech.com

I have this on mine, but can't get this working along with the auto-locking at 15mph.

Managed to really f**k up with my mental arithmetic when I first tried to code it and the auto-locking worked the opposite, ie: doors unlocked >15mph. Keyfob buttons worked opposite to how they should.... oh, and 30 seconds after locking the car, it automatically unlocked them again. Be careful is my advice!!!
