Long distance drive - Miltek non res, non valve and tune up

Post by chemical-ali » Tue Dec 16, 2008 9:06 pm

After having the car tuned, a miltek non res, non valve exhaust and a full service, I have just done a 700 mile round trip from Cardiff to Paris return. So the system has had a good test, as has my patience by the two kids and snotty wife that soured the journey, with one little sh*t puking after a coughing fit.

I must admit that I was a little worried about the trip, not so much for the remap, but the exhaust with two small kids and a long journey was a worry. But there seems to be a sweet spot at around 100 mph (allegedly) on those smooth, trafficless French roads that makes the exhaust note fairly quiet and actually quite enjoyable. Admittedly, up to 30mph the car sounds like it is having road works carried out on it, but at a good cruising speed, its no problem at all.

On the flip side, every male who hasn't been neutered or prefers the evening company of another gentleman turns their head to see what just went past, which is fine with me as I am the cock Clarkson talks of. It is a glorious full bodied claret of a V8 soundtrack that vibrates the pedestrians off their pavements. And the great thing is, along with the tune up, I no longer have to press the s button every time I enter the car before setting off.

So all in all, if you are worried about going all out with a loud exhaust, its fine - well, as long as you are going to Euro Disney. But my advice is, once you get there, don't stop for anything, not even to take a leak. Because if you do, you wont be able to afford the petrol home.

Good write up, I know what you mean too, I had the Non res, valved version fitted, and as long as the revs are high the deepness of the exhaust note goes, and at speeds around 70mph for me, its fine (obviously you have the non valved) bu saying that, in sports mode its actually not that bad, its just driving around town bit that's a tad loud!

what remap have you got?

Have an APS map, which I think is Sportec provided software with in house adjustments. Havn't you got the same looking at your write up?

Has livened the car up quite a bit and made it feel more torquey.

How do you find the gruppe M? Was thinking about it, but seems too much for no improvement.

Yes mate I im getting on with it, no problems, the GruppeM I got for 300 quid from a guy of the Forum, so i saved on 2 3rds of the price, the sound from the induction kit is amazing TBH as iv had 3 mods done at one its hard to tell what one has made most performance increase, but having GruppeMs before Im happy with it, if any thing i was thinking of putting the OEM exhaust back on the car if it does not quiet down after the 2 k bed in!....however, on the track the car sounds amazing, so swins and roundabouts!

Don't worry - the exhaust does bed in nicely.
Bail out, bail out, bail out.
Do I have to wait for you to say it three times.......

I do hope it doesn't bed in too nicely. I kind of like its gruff max power chavyness.
