"CLUNK" noise on hard braking and at low speeds..
"CLUNK" noise on hard braking and at low speeds..
"CLUNK" noise on hard braking and at low speeds on close to full lock
The noise only started recently and comes definately from the front... i've had both front shocks replaced 8000 miles ago and am awaiting the offside rear on back order!
Does it sound like the fronts have failed again? anything else it could be??
i'm gonna take it back to the dealers for another check! i'll be pissed if they have failed because i've just been at the dealers the last 2 weeks in a row for all 4 new tyres and front brake pads replaced .... they should have noticed if the shocks are leaking..... (rant over)
If anyone has had similar CLUNKING noises or thinks they know what it might be please help...
Thankyou

RE: "CLUNK" noise on hard braking and at low speed
I have the same... but mine is coming from the rear. Both front shocks replaced 4 months ago - I cant bear to take it back in case it is the DRC again! Are you tramlining too?
RE: "CLUNK" noise on hard braking and at low speed
Marcus-RS4: A 'clunk' from the rear? The DRC valves are under the back of the rear seat and if the DRC has been improperly recharged, they make a harsh noise. If they're very bad it's like an old exhaust rattling about - if they're not as bad it's less intrusive and might be a more 'oil-damped rattle'.
Booski: hard to tell, but it is a symptom of DRC failure. If you check the shocks, is there an oily layer down the back of them? If there's no oil leak then it's odd that it has just started - as if they were improperly charged then it would have been evident very quickly. "Close to full lock" suggests a bush or CV issue, neither of which really ought to affect these cars yet. I had a very hard to track down 'clunk' on an old Audi 200 - did just the same: if you were on hard lock and accelerated at all then you heard a clunk, if you braked hard the same, if you reversed promptly and stopped sharp, another clunk. Went though subfrane bushes and god knows what, eventually finding a damaged CV joint. But that was after 150,000 miles...

RE: "CLUNK" noise on hard braking and at low speed
indeed rjkflyer, but I would have trusted Camberley to do the re-charge properly, more likely to be a failed shock again... it sounds like I have something in the boot lol (I dont!)
RE: "CLUNK" noise on hard braking and at low speed
thanks for your advice rjkflyer- i've just got back from Audi - one of the front shocks has exploded and needs replacing along with the offside rear and the valve
hopefully this clears up the clunk noise on full lock - this only occurs when i reverse with full left lock... the clunk on hard braking must be the exploded front shock
Marcus-RS4- it's probably best if you have the same symptoms to take it to a dealer to be checked- mines classified as off the road until fixed because it's unsafe to drive!

I just had one almighty clunk this afternoon when reversing / turning into a parking space, almost felt like I had hit something first but checked round the car and nothing. Did you all just get one clunk or does it repeatedly happen? Car has never done anythign like that, not even in that space which I have reversed into before.
mine clunked every time i reversed using full left lock
i've had the offside front and offside rear shocks replaced and a valve
no probs now!
keep an eye on it- if it keeps happening take it to the dealer
or if your concerned have it checked

are the discs and pads being done under warranty? if so how did you manage that?P_G wrote:Just confirmed that mine is in need of two front shocks, DRC valves plus front discs and pads. Being kept in overnight and stripped down and should be done by tomorrow lunchtime.
