Tyre Damage

Post by dsearle » Wed May 07, 2008 7:59 pm

Guys,

My wife clipped a curb (rough edged like a stone) last week and it's ripped into the tyre a bit. I'm inclined just to change it but it's like 2 months old. HOw damaged does a tyre have to be to make it unsafe? I can just see the start of some of the threading of the tyre if I life the flap of rubber up. The allow is scuffed too so I'm going to look at getting all the wheels refurbed. Got any good suggestions for companies who do this well?

Cheers,

Dave

I did exactly the same thing last week (I'll admit to it and not blame the wife !), luckily I only cut into the alloy protection strip on the tyre. Anyway, I got it checked at Kwikfit and was told that it was fine, but if any thread was showing then the tyre would need changing. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but it looks like a new tyre is needed.

Just to cheer you up a bit, i had to scrap a tyre with 80 miles on it last month as I picked up a screw 5mm outside of the repairable zone.

Paul.

Must be something in the air cause the wife clipped a curb the other day too, thankfully only took a chunk out of the protector part on the tyre. As said above, if there's any thread showing i would get a new tyre a.s.a.p. You could do without going too fast or cornering too hard aswell while it's like this.

Dunc
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there!
