Bonnet Release Broken!!!!

Post by MB » Thu Apr 24, 2008 5:28 pm

Hi there

My pride and joy is currently at the garage - when I last closed the bonnet the release catch broke. Problem is they tell me they can't open the bonnet to repair it unless they go through the grill... and therefore break the grill! Will be costing me £150 for new grill. Is this true or is it another case of dealerships not really understanding the RS6???

On a slightly different note, the Lister's (Car Care Plan) warranty apparently won't cover the new catch and rod etc so that'll add another £100 to the bill... and they were happy to cash my transfer cheque but a week later have 'lost' the paperwork to transfer the warranty!

Does the bonnet pop up all and you just can't see the tab to pull out to fully open or is nothing happening?

When I pull the inside release the catch pops through the wrong bit in the grill, but you can only see a tiny bit and it's at an angle. The bonnet pops up slightly as usual. It's clearly broken and the garage says the release mechanism is seized. Sounds odd but vaguely believable.

This happened to me last year. I pulled the catch then went to the grill but the lever was in an odd position. I took it to the dealers and they quoted me £300 as they reckoned someone had reversed into me when parked and damaged the grill. I couldn't see any external damage and after some descusion they split the cost with me. A new grill was installed and everything was okay after that.

I have this happening on mine and if you use a tiny allen key and push the bonnet down slightly you can get it to come out the right hole. On mine its to do with a tiny bit of plastic missing under the bonnet.

Turns out the bonnet catch is siezed due to "poor maintenance"... therefore Warranty won't cover it. I suppose it really was my fault (even though I'd only had the car for a few days). It's a learning point for us all I guess!
