Brembo 4 Pots
Brembo 4 Pots
Having spent the day pondering my knackered brake situation, I have been reviewing the UK TT forum group buy for some 4 pot Brembos.
Are they good value and will they be more effective than the standard S3 brakes?? Anyone have any experience of these? Can we better the spec with AP's etc(similar price range)
Details enclosed below..
328mm x 28mm Disc (grooved or drilled)
BREMBO 4 Pot Callipers (piston size 36/40)
Braided Hoses
Mounting Brackets
RED DOT Fast Road Brake Pad
Extreme 5 brake fluid
Price: 550 + VAT
Front system with two-piece 328 X 28mm cross-drilled vented discs with anti-corrosive cadmium plating. Mounts "floating" style to vehicle specific billet aluminum bell. Brembo engineered and machined two-piece cast aluminum caliper. Fitted with four sequentially sized aluminum pistons, dusts seals and anti-rattle clip. Also included, complete axel set of high performance pads and DOT/TÜV approved stainless steel brake lines. Aircraft quality mounting brackets and hardware complete this system. All our high performance brake systems are ABS compatible and retain the stock master cylinder"
The calipers are similar to the one fitted on the Leon Cupra. Piston size
36/40. Having said that they are the same that fit on the Maserati 3200
GT,Ferrari F40, Alfa 156 GTA, Lotus Esprit 3.5 V8 turbo, and several other
sports cars.
hmmm. Decisions Decisions.

Re: Brembo 4 Pots
Hmmm tempting isn't Simon. Offer was also posted on AS.net with link to TT forum.
The thread on the TT forum is a bit confusing.
For instance, what does this mean:
Does it mean there are 3 different kits available for the TT/S3?
The thread also goes on about Red Dot, AmD and Larkspeed. Sounds to me that the group buy is no where near finalised yet.
I've looked at Forge Disks (£205.45) , Green Stuff pads (£50 ish), Castrol SRF fluid (upto £60 for 3 litres), fitting at Audi dealer (£0) only charge will be for fluid change (£55), approx total: £370.45. Thats a fair bit of money, for a setup that might not be anywhere near as good as the Brembo setup.
I don't know what to do either.

They can also supply the front Brembo kits with drilled or grooved discs in 322mm x 32mm with full fitting kit including bells and brackets & pads for £625+vat (inc delivery)
Brembo have 3 kits in stock and the balance will be 14-21 days delivery.

Re: Brembo 4 Pots
That is a pretty good price......I'd go for it.
Re: Brembo 4 Pots
AL,
after speaking with John Roberts yesterday, no brake kit is going to be 100% perfect due to the weight of our cars and the lack of adequate cooling - certainly not when you drive your car enthusiastically like I do. Therefore I am very wary of spending a lot of money on the Movits, so my thinking at the moment is to maybe go halfway - hence my interest in this group buy.
After what happened to my Greenstuff pads, I wouldn't recommend these - I have some pagid blues arriving today so I'll have to try these - hopefully I'll have them bedded in in time for Castle Coombe
Fecking cars - one thing after another...

Re: Brembo 4 Pots
i think the price seems too good to be true
However do Brembo do grooved sdiscs or is someone just buying callipers then using some other cheaper disc??
Surely the main problem we all have with our brakes is 2 things IMHO
Firstly the braking force. So if you feel that the brakes did not stop the car quick enough we need to improve braking force, i.e. upgrade the caliper or pad Generally Audi have worked this out that if we drive nomally the size of disc and calliper should stop the car efficiently - well at least thats what we would hope!!!
The next problem is how well they last under extremely heavy use, which basically is a heat problem. On the track the car is subject to extreme heat and this either warps or deforms the disc, glazes the face of the pad and other minor issues
However to deal with the heat we need to look into how to deal with the heat more efficiently, a bigger heat sink - a bigger disc, however this usually means new callipers to fit the new disc
Grooves and holes inprove airflow/surface area so aid cooling
However with the RS4 being such a large and heavy car the size of the rotor could mean it is so big it may distort
I am none the wiser what to do
I have tried GMBH set up but the Pagid yellows just created so much heat they distroyed the discs
I have tried the Movits but believe that the Movit discs are inferior to the Porshe equivalents
So now i am looking into new Porshe rotors with some ducting to get air into the discs, that together with 19" rims should improve cooling and therefore extend the life of the car
Cheers and good luck

Can't beat a bit of boost!
Re: Brembo 4 Pots
I also thing the 6 pot option may be an idea
If you can distribute the braking force evenly then the heat will also be even and may cause less of a chance of deforming the disc

Bushy
I think that on the S4 & RS4 we need to get more air into the wheel arch. The S4 vents it's intercoolers into the wheel arch which can't be good for disc temps. I was thinking about running some brake ducts so that cool(er) is directed at the edge of the rotors.
Floating discs shouldn't warp under heavy use unless the brakes are applied once the car is stationary.

Re: Brembo 4 Pots
If they fit an S4, I'll have some at that price.
With all the stuff I have read, Brembo = Quality.

Re: Brembo 4 Pots
It depends on the quality of the discs....as Bushy says it sounds too cheap.....
Re: Brembo 4 Pots
The 380mm rotors for an RS4 are around £500 each as a price guide

That's loads more than the 993TT disks - genuine parts are £118 each plus VAT. Try www.type911.co.uk to see if they can supply the 380mm rotors and at what price.
Re: Brembo 4 Pots
looks like it isnt a 2 piece disc as first thought. Its one.
Not a bell/disc set up like the porsche or movit.
Piston sizes concern me... to.
They are also advising against the drilled discs as they are prone to cracking.
This suggests they are infact drilled and not cast in holes.
Im keen on the movits, but im watching the other buys with interest.

why would the size of the pistons concern you if you are never going to track your car?? 4 pistons surely are better than 2???
I've been reading the TT thread with interest. One thing for sure is that I can't get the go ahead for the Movits so I have to look at a cheaper option. After considering all the options and strengths/weaknesses, there is no guarantee that the Movits won't fail me either... Will Movit replace my discs if they warp after a track day?? In fact, will any Manufacturer??
