Help - Damsel in distress!
Help - Damsel in distress!
Hi
I own an x-reg RS4 Avant. Last Thursday I was involved in an accident where a young driver pulled out of a car park looking left, turning right and drove headlong into me on the wrong side of the road. I was stationery at the time.
My car is currently at a repair shop (insurance designated) in West Yorkshire. I am worried that given the parts value (especially in this area of the country), they are going to write it off, pay me the Glass's guide estimate and then sell it for scrap. The recovery company suggested it would be written off as the sump was cracked. I've had a lot of work done to it recently, including replacement wheels.
Is there anyone on this website who is, or who knows, a vehicle assessor who can provide a second opinion? Time is of the essence. I can be contacted on charmaine.johns@virgin.net
Many thanks
Charmaine

RE: Re: Help - Damsel in distress!
since you were stationary therefore not at fault, INSIST that the car is repaired by an authorised bodyshop at the other insurers expense and DONT ACCEPT its a right off just yet.
I was rear ended in my UrS4 and the "assessor" said its had it.. I said BLX!! FIX IT so it was repaired at a cost of 3k to the other parties insurance. Because it was on someone elses insurance the bodyshop replaced all panels for new instead of repairing the existing panels, cost of respray etc... so PLEASE dont take it as doomed until you have had it properly assessed by someone who knows RS4's
see if you can get photos to MRC (www.mrctuning.com)
or phone then on 01295277308, ask for Doug or Mihnea
REALLY sorry to hear of your incident Charmaine, hope it works out ok for you.

Surely even if the car is written off by someone else, there insurance company must give u a fair price for the car INCLUDING the mods so you can replace with a similar spec, similar pre accident condition car?
I'd speak to your insurance company for advice, as if its been damaged badly enough to crack the sump, would you feel happy with the car when u get it back/come to sell it!

if its been repaired by competant technicians then I would.
I would also fight the glass guide as well because the RS4 isnt your everyday car and as a result the price reflection in this guide is way below what it could be.
We had ours "priced" last weekend and was stunned with the reply, INSTEAD get it valued on here where you have a specialist audience who would know the current climate for such a vehicle otherwise your gonna get stung by the insurance who are now looking at potentially minimising their outlay.
As stated above you can refuse the insurance's "recommended repairer" and demand it is taken elsewhere at the other insurances expense because you want it repaired properly and not necessarily by the cheapest quote. This wasnt your fault so dont accept second best.

just thinking.... Charmaine you didnt say if the young driver was insured? THIS could have major repurcussions if this is the case if your own insurance company goes with the assessors opinion instead of your demand to get the car repaired.... assuming it can be!!

it may depend if its been registered as having a repair.... mine wasnt as far as I know!! so long as any prospective buyer is informed then ...... I dont know what to say as I aint an insurance or technician by a country mile so I wont waffle on!
at least if it can be repaired it saves another RS4, would be a sad day if its RS4 pearly gates inbound!!

Even if they are not insured you can still try and claim from the Motor Insurers Bureau rather than from your own
insurance.
