Damaged rear end

Post by JonnyX » Mon Nov 26, 2007 10:59 am

Hello all,

Well, being a total numpty, I was reversing into a parking spot at the gym last night, in
a rush, and managed to perfectly position my car. Perfectly in the sense that I couldn't
see the huge metal parking barriers in my wing mirror. To cut a long story short I have
a nice crease right along the middle of my tailgate. So, my options:

1) Go to a bodyshop
Anybody know a good bodyshop in the Farnborough/Camberley/Fleet area? I am nervous
of this as the last time I went to a bodyshop I ended up nearly having a fight with the
manager over the substandard work. I am also worried that it might no actually be
repairable.

2) Get a tailgate from a breakers and get it sprayed
Anyone know of a good Audi breaker where I can get this from? Anybody able to help
me out or know someone who can?

3) Get a new primed tailgate from Audi. I am sure this will be $$$, anybody have a clue
how much?

Any other advice? (related to the damage, not to my parking technique. I have had just
about enough 'advice' in that area from my wife already :( )

Cheers,

Jon

I was looking at fitting an 8 sensor system to my car, to avoid this very problem. Unfortunately, the system I wanted isn't made anymore and I haven't done anything about it :(

Chin(s) up Jon. I'm in the same boat.
I was in a hurry, and was parking in a multi storey car park and reversing in between two cars. They were a Fiat Cinquecento and a Hyandai Atoz. D'oh.
But wait, you say. Haven't you got a bloody great big towbar sticking out the back stopping you from hitting the wall? Well it would have done had it not been for the overhanging part of the wall to the left of my car that came half way down my boot.

I haven't had time to look into it yet.

you will have to get both rear quarters painted if you want a good job. they will 'blend' the paint out across the panels

Bad luck mate, been there before with other cars,

ah, love my parking sensors, can't drive a car without them now! it's embarassing when I try and park the girlfriends car. Had a look on etka and it's all there, but I expect it would add up to a small fortune to retrofit, they are low down in the black part of the bumper by the way.
I wonder if they could be moved from another scrapped VAG car?

Thanks. I think I am going to get a new one from vagparts (160 + VAT) and get is sprayed locally. The boot still works
and needed a respray anyway so I am in no rush.
