calculating bhp via vagcom
can someone confirm the magic formula to calculate approx bhp?
RE: calculating bhp via vagcom
Take the peak MAF reading on a FATs run (4,200 to 6,500rpm in 3rd) and divide the figure by 0.8.
Not sure how reliable it is, but it seems to be a generally accepted rough and ready rule of thumb for these cars.

or log the torque and use this simple formula
BHP = 2 x pi x torque x revolutions / 550.
Pi is 3.1416, torque is in pounds-feet and revolutions are revs per second.
Obviously, we can change the revs to revs per minute, easily!
Here's another version:
BHP = 2 x pi x torque x rpm x 1.34 x 10 to minus third power / 60.
For this formula BHP is in horsepower and torque is in Nm

All very scientific Dave, but I'm reliably informed that the torque measured by Vagcom is at best pretty vague...

The peak maf/0.8 came out so close to the figure I would expect compared to my dynop results (power at wheels) that I personally think it's as good an inidcation as any, certainly for stage 1/2 cars. Not sure if it works it's way out ofd tollerance the more power you run.

I'd blame it on the bottle of brandy you were probably consuming at the time...shineydave wrote:i was just trying to cloud a simple issue with math, lol. i blame it all on a deep seated desire to be an accountant

BHP calculations
Is this the reading from both banks under group 2 VAG or the total MAF under group 3.
My total under group 3 is 364.08 on both an RS4 and an RS6 whereas the total of both banks on the RS6 is 404.03
