Paintwork advice/help

Post by Mr.Sushi » Fri Sep 14, 2007 6:35 pm

I have a couple of questions and would really appreciate if you guys could offer me some advice/suggestions. When I run my hand along the paintwork on my car it feels quite rough and not at all smooth. It was like this since I bought it (I bought my car new) and only now notice it more and more. Is this normal?

Secondly, I have somehow managed to get a few light scratches on the paint (I dont know how, might not even have been me) None of them are deep, just slight scuffs, is there anyway of removing these or polishing them out?

Thanks in advance for your help,

AL

Sounds like the car needs a professional detail or at the very least a clay and polish though it shouldn't have been like this from new.

Dependant on where you are (and how much you want to pay) there are a few great people/cpmpanies that can do this for you or i can send you some guides if it helps.

Any recommendations on a top notch company that will do a home visit? (North London area). I have a respray line over my filler cap where something has gone wrong (was there from pick up but didn't notice until weeks later - dealer said they will sort but I don't trust them to do a good job).

Dry London air, dust and tree sap all add to the deposits on a car. A good wash and polish with good quality polish will do it the world of good.

For the princely sum of £11.95 you can sort that yourself in just 30 mins. Find your nearest Halfords (or buy online from one of the detailing stores - such as http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/detailing-clay/cat_9.html ).

Then buy some detailing spray and a clay bar, use the detailing spray as a lubricant and rub the clay bar over the paintwork and voila - roughness gone and lovely smooth paintwork again.

A good polish will remove the swirl marks - either do it yourself with a Portercable polisher or ask a professional detailer for help.

I always employ a detailer to inspect the paintwork on a new car before taking delivery. They will check the car's paintwork with an electronic paint depth system to identify if the car has had any paint rectification or damage repair.

Hey Al,

As an example of what can be done, I had to get my car sorted after I collected it from the dealership. http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/forum/s ... hp?t=42875

Detailling world is a good place to find someone in your area. You can usually see some of their work on there so you know what you're in for.

good grief!! if I was the owner it would be vacuum sealed in a glass tank and never used.... HOW could you use it and get it dirty when its this stunning? feel guilty as sin itself taking it onto the grime riddled roads we have here.

Does this guy do "homers" I have an RS that wouldnt mind coming up to this standard of finish. :bigblink:

Excellent work BUT the dealer should have his knackers wrapped around his neck for allowing a car to be presented to its new owner in this state!!
