'hot-wire' the TV to stay on whilst driving. Also if I had a DVD player and run it to the 'headunit', would that work whist driving?
I know it is not linked to the handbrake, like new systems, it must be linked in to the GPS or speed signal wire, which I could find, but that might shag up the Sat Nav?
Any solutions? VAG.com, can that do it?

yep its def possible coz I've done it !!! You just need to break the GALA connection (lead into the back of the head unit). Has no adverse impact upon the SATNAV functionality at all...

Allows TV in motion and an external Av source (such as DVD player) to be used, without the warning screen appearing. I have an external Freeview TV Tuner and a DVD player coming into mine as an external source...

I'm part of the Essex boys that include JamieRS6 that you met at Rayleigh the other night.. Pop along to the next PH meet @ The Lodge; SWF and I'll give you a demo of the TV in motion. For a pint I might even be tempted to do the GALA wire for you....

I have a well hidden switch on mine, there may be an occasion when it will be useful to physically switch off the ability to have TV in motion.

I've not got a hard wired dvd player in my car (Neil, have you, where is it located?), but I have run some AV cables from under the front passenger seat into the AV in inputs on the TV receiver in the quarter panel in the boot. On longer journeys I have a couple of screens on in the back for the kids and the portable dvd player up front. The AV cables going to the TV receiver make it easier for me to set up and play the dvd's as it plays them on the front screen.

So I don't need to spend £150 on special lead / box of tricks then!!?
Cool I reckon a pint for that is well acceptable.
Then it would be possible to hook up DVD player in boot for eleviating boredom on the way to the ring. cool.
I assumed that removing the lead or cutting it would affect the sensitivity of the Sat nav, like journey times etc.

Just a quick tip, get 3 x 90 degree phono converter plugs for the back of the TV receiver as it's a bit tight to plug the AV leads straight in. I got mine from Maplins online.

yeah I forgot about that tip Jarv. I got mine from Maplins as well....Well worth the few pence...There's not a lot of room behind that panel...

I also have one of those portable DVD players hidden under the passenger's seat, with optional screens in the back to keep the kiddies quiet....Thought that they would also be safer as they can be easily removed from nasty prying eyes. I also have a slimline digiTV tuner that fits in the tray underneath the current TV Tuner, and an AV source selector that allws me to switch between DVD player and DigiTV.

i have a Cappuccino mini PC for music, movies and hands free phone connected to mine, be interested in the digital tv tuner though, i've not come across anything yet that works in any fashion that you'd call acceptable

Thanks Neil, got any details of the model, etc.? And like Dave says, is it reliable on the move? When you lose the strength on an analogue signal you tend to lose the sound but still get a picture, but with digital, the signal really has to be good quality or the picture goes. What sort of aerials do you have for the digi tuner?

@ Dave, I know about your set-up, very jealous. I'm just trying to think of a way of installing a system that will play dvd's, digital TV and maybe movie files as cheaply as possible. I already have a phatbox install, so space below the analogue TV receiver is limited.

Personally I'd rather be one who knows what they're doing, but watching TV....

Sell the phatbox. Got a mini pc thingy that dave has and buy a usb digi reciever for the comp. Then wire computer to screen. Hey presto!! You have digi tv, music, films and even games(hopefully you won't do the last 1 while driving). Also, as a lot of people know, the red screen in the middle of the speedo's have faded on alot of cars. Why not get another little screen fitted in there(mini version of the 1 in the nav system). It would look more up-to-date and maybe even access the computer with it??? Just a random thought!!!

Well more fool you. Id like to see what you have to say about yourself after you have knocked some poor kid over while watching an episode of Eastenders.

And If the coppers ever catch you you'll get fooked up teh ass big style!! (although that is probably what you need)

Very irresponsible attitude to take imho and you shouldnt be allow a license if thats how you think..

If your really that depsperate to watch tv while driving why not get yourself a nice big plasma screen in teh bedroom and buy one of those racing car beds.... I'll perhaps feel that liltte bit safer on the roads then as that sounds about all you are fit for.

P.s that also goes to everyone else in this thread who thinks it is acceptable to drive and watch TV at the same time.. What a bunch of numbskulls..

there speaks a man who assumes everyone else actually is stupid. i've got access to movies and TV, that doesn't mean i actually watch it whilst driving although i do have it on. have you ever heard those words "Dad, are we there yet?" yup, i play movies for the kids or the wife might watch corrie, it keeps them amused on long journeys.

and i do have a large screen TV, do you have a spellchecker?
