ECU current or last version?

Post by lexos » Sun Aug 26, 2007 11:46 am

Hi,

I had some issues by starting the engine when my car is sleeping outside. No problems when in the garage. So I went to an Audi dealer....and asking for a ecu update.....he said that I have got the last version....as far as I can see (not sure), below is version 0030 right? wrong?

Sorry about the log, it's in french ;-)....

If someone can help me, will be great.

BR

Vincent

your dealer sucks.... yes it shows your engine motronic version is a0030

I had version a0050 and got upgraded to the latest version which is a0080.... two weeks ago which resolves your issue....

you either tell them they know nothing or change dealer...

Don't be to sure with that..

I think (quite sure) that you're ECU-number is 8E1910560 with sw 0050 updated to sw 0080.
But Vincent's is a 2007 ECU with ECU-number 8E1910560D with sw 0030.
I think that is the newest sw for that ECU-number right now...

Jeroen

hi Jeroen,
Many thanks for the tips...so maybe that's ok. I don't know if someone can have a look with a VAG diag...just to confirm.

That doesn't sound right to me....
You seem to be saying that the newer ECU, with D suffix, can only have older SW (0030) than the older, no suffix, ECU which can have 0050 or 0080???

That doesn't make sense to me.

 Me neither, 0080 is the latest version, for all B7 RS4.

I did not say, it can only have older SW. I only mean to say that I haven't seen newer SW with this ECU with D suffix right now. But that's mostly a little time before it gives another update..
So far I know Audi started the RS4 V8 with 8E1910560 0010. After some time they updated it to 8E1910560 0020, sometimes later to 8E1910560 0030, ……… till 8E1910560 0080.
Later production with (sometimes) little hardware changes , are installed with ECU 8E1910560A 0010. Than you get updates 8E1910560A 0020 ……
There's also a 8E1910560D 0010, with an update 8E1910560D 0020 and another newer update 8E1910560D 0030 … with an update to come or allready is..
Also sometimes there are different ECU hw/sw numbers for different country's.. With their updates..

So when you have the combination e.g. 8E1910560 0040 or 8E1910560 0050 , than they can update it for this Hardware newest software available, 8E1910560 0080.

Jeroen

How do you find out what update version you are running?

Can you only find out by plugging into a VAG-Com unit?

Had my ECU update done today.

They ran a full diagnostic check as a precaution and no faults whatsoever.

I'm not sure whether the diagnostics print out they gave me was pre or post update, but I'm now running the 0080 software so...

I've never really had an issue with cold start (once or twice the car has not started first time but thats about the extent of my observations) but hopefully this will mean I categorically won't.

Can't tell if there is any difference in the car's performance from the short drive today....

About 4500 miles on it, of which ~1000 were done this past weekend.

With VAG-Com it shows what verion you are running. I was running 50 then Jeroen upgraded it to 80 before he remapped it and i can see with VAG-com it is showing the 80 version now.

If you do not have access to Vag-Com you can see what version you are running by looking on the back of one of the ECU's, where its printed.

Yes, I would like to know this as well. Is it just to eliminate the cold start problem or is the mapping different?

The ECU's are under the plastic covers on the bulkhead where the wiper arms come out (drivers side).
