37.5 mpg !

Post by david7m » Tue Apr 10, 2007 9:10 am

Hi

I had a cam belt, water pump, service, brake fluid, haldex filter and oil, cleaned throttle bodies, lower wishbone bushes and also found out my rear drivers coilover has snapped!

Anyway, I drove home Sunday night (5 miles to the motorway at 30/40mph, 60 miles at 70mph and then about 20 miles at 60mph) and my DIS showed 37.5mpg !!!!!!! Not bad with 270bhp on tap I thought 8)

It seems to be getting better with more miles, car now on 67k.

would have thought more like 45mpg at those speeds....

I did 45 miles up the m4 the other day on cruise at 65 and got 43.8mpg

In an S3? Do you mean total average mpg or current mpg? I'm referring to total.

Converting this sticky into gallons and miles per hour = 21.2mpg City, 30.0mpg Average and 39.7mpg Highway....

I'm not sure what the highway speeds involve though :? Can't imagine anyone getting upto your estimated 45mpg, I was chuffed with 37.5mpg, although mine is chipped.

As I do the same drive most Friday's and Sunday's now, I've done some different motorway speeds - sad I know

Sitting at 80mph on the motorway = 34mpg
Sitting at 60mph on the motorway = 42mpg

Interestingly, the 60mph only took an extra 10 minutes......

Must be additional 45bhp on tap that is screwing it up, but I still thought it was good!

yes an s3 with 270bhp just because it has that much bhp it doesnt mean you have to use it..

last week running to a from work Reading to Slough 38.9MPG (total) it just on half a tank and showing 290miles. mind you it does drop around town.

Last year it took it down to southern france across to italy then back up through the alps total milage was 4k and it still did 33mpg.
