Modified Vehicle Report

How much detail should be gone into when filling out a Modified Vehicle Report for insurance?

Bullet points or every nut, bolt, pipe etc?

I'd go for high level (they can always come back for more detail). The more detail you give, the more chance you will miss something and they will try to wriggle in the event of a claim.

So - "Replacement large bore exhaust and catalytic converters", etc covers everything you've done to the exhaust system.

I've done these before on extremely modded minis, i always tend to be generic on these forms as has been said, eg 'uprated clutch', 'uprated brake pads on metro discs' etc. There's never enough room for me.
But, i've also included a 'spec sheet' that i use for shows, which lists stuff in intimate detail.
Better to check with them now as to what level they require..

I'd say the more you document, the safer you will be if you claim.

I will cover everything but I don't see the point of going to detailed on every item. We'll see how I get on...

Advice I have recently had from a specialist broker was make any additions to modified parts as many at a time as you can. Individual changes will always cost you more.

Keeping that in mind, the more generic you are, the less changes you will have to make.

I declared a non standard AMG backbox on my Mercedes. The premium rose fractionally. The paperwork came back with "Non standard exhaust or manifolds", which gave me free reign to do as I wished with the whole system.

So I'd say make sure you cover absolutley every modification you have made, in a generic as possible way you can, perhaps with the exception where you wish to ensure you have sufficient cover to ensure a suitable like for like replacement.

So "non standard stainless exhaust system" but "KKK06 turbos" instead of "upgrated turbos".

I have just recieved the insurance documents from A-Plan to sign.

On the phone I detailed the car has a remap increasing power to about 320BHP from 265BHP stock.

The forms have come through "Miscellaneous Engine Modifications"!!!

As there are no engine modifications with any value that I am specifically concerned about insuring value wise, I am quite happy with that.

Past: 1998 Agate grey B5 S4 saloon (MRC tuned)
Hers: 2011 Volcano red 8P A3 Sportback 2.0 TDI 170 sport quattro

Shame, you'll have to cancel the RS6 turbo's then :D
