s4 avant B6 against rs4

Post by audimartin » Fri Oct 13, 2006 8:37 pm

I have been offered a B6 in part ex against my RS4 avant. Its been AMd stage 3'd, so is knocking out very similar figures.

Has anyone owned a B6 S4 before an RS4 and give me any sort of comparison. I'm not expecting it to be nearly as good, but with the same lump is it the handling that is the only real drawback? Any potential issues on one with 6ok beneath it?

That would be the dummest swap you could make.......

The B6 S4 is in no way a match for the almighty RS4 B5....

The only thing (and that's the only thing) I could possibly think of is that the B6 is a newer model...

Martin is referring to his B7 RS4. And he did say PART-EX not straight swap! So it all depends on what ££ he's getting on top.
RS4 B5. Where it all started.
RS6+ Never to be replaced.
Replaced by: 997 Turbo. Didn't like.
Replaced by RS6. I like(d).
Land Rover Defender. Not as nippy.
Back with C6 RS6
And again C7 RS6

if your needing to get rid of the rs4 to free up £££ then its a good swap but if you looking for a car to be a good equivalent then its not so clever.

I did the exact same swap... but the other way round. Mine had AMD SIII and Milltek exhaust and to be honest power wise I cant really tell the difference. BUT the RS4 is just in a different league handling, styling and general delivery wise. If your freeing cash - a sensible move as the s4 is a great car. If you want the same smile the RS4 gives you.... im not so sure!

If you have any q's just pm me - had two years of the S4 and enjoyed every second of it!

Thanks Dunc,
It would free up hopefully about £35-37k, enough for me to use for other Bricks& mortar related plans. The S4 books with a main dealer at under 18k, so it all depends if i can strike a deal. If i can do such a deal, and still have a decent car, which it appears i would have, then its not such a bad move.
Perhaps in 2-3 years time, i can get back into a B7 RS when the prices have fallen. I'm meeting up with the S4 owner on sunday to drive each others cars and talk about money etc. He doesn't have a price in mind, but with just about 60k on it, & with the warranty about to expire, the private price must still be in the teens.

If it makes me smile half as much as the RS4 for 1/3 of the price then its a no brainer :P

I still miss the S4 dearly... we became mega attached! Sad I know.... ;-)

It turned lots of heads I must admit, just because of the milltek and its presence. I may be slightly wrong here, but the s4 avant does have a good road presence.

The AMD SIII makes the car so addictive.... it really does change it, worth every penny. Every day I got into it I would still smile and love every second of driving it.

Memory for me must have been with the S4 hurtling down the german autobahn with 4 adults, 4 skis on the top and not a inch of space inside the car for all of our kit. We were cruising at just over 110mph for the majority of the way with blasts upto 150 and with all that weight it still felt so planted and connected that it frightened me! Didnt miss a beat either. Had a horrible thirst for petrol and oil but that was all - oh and tyres! And mine had 19" sportecs on it - if yours doesnt have those get some from AMD... they change the handling for the better I feel but they are monsters of tyres and give you oodles of grip!

Let me know how it goes - id be interested to hear your comments.

Sounds like it may be worth getting into it for the monetary value decrease, also depreciation wouldn't be an issue. at the 3 year point on 60k, itc clearly had its BIG hit :audibash:
i have had one broker and 1 Audi main dealer give me a trade value on the said car, 17k/17625 respectively. I dont know how to break it to the guy who has it, he has owned since 3 months old(ex demo) and must have paid over £40k, i think fully loaded it would have been £43k ish. then there's the stage 3 to consider too.
Is the fuel consumption any better/ worse than the RS Duncan?

not really any worse - the S4 with the AMD eats a bit more - but then that maybe because you want to use the rediclous power and torque all the time! and if you have the Milltek (DEFO GET ONE IF IT DOESN'T!) then you just want to hear the gorgeous sound.

I do notice that the RS4 is better on the motorway getting 25-28 if its driven nicely where the s4 would never get over 23. I averaged around 16mpg as I do a lot of city driving.

Worst mpg i ever had on the s4 was 9mpg - worst on the rs4 - 5.5!

I always seemed to be at the petrol pumps - and still am I guess - But i try not to worry about it too much lol - enjoy it - they are both beasts of a car!

Gents,

What sort of power / torque does the AmD stage 3 give on the B6 S4?

Jules.
