My car's full of water

Post by dlaing123 » Sat Oct 07, 2006 8:37 am

There is about an inch of water in the rear passenger footwell of my S4 and the carpets are soaked from front to back. Any idea how it could have got there? (and no, I didn't leave the windows open!)

I once had a load of water in the rear driver side footwell. Never did find where it came from so would also like ideas...

Have a quick look under the bonnet where the battery is. If that's full of water, the drains are blocked and the water has got into the car through the hole in the bulkhead where there wiring comes through to the ecu.

Simple fix, unblock the drain hole under the battery.

There is an article in this months Audi Driver about this exact problem. The water was let in due to the seal of the pollen filter cover giving way after a build up of water over time due to leaves and general grime. Check out the 'Technical View' section on page 21 for more details.

Ooops, might not be the ECU hole then, sorry.

Worth checking both whilst your at it as I know the drainholes under the battery are prone to getting clogged.

I had this exact problem in an B5 A4 - it was worst in the nearside rear footwell but sometimes spilled over into the front. Eventually narrowed it down to pollen filter seal not fitted correctly *and* the drain hole under the battery (gets blocked with leaves and dirt). Really annoying problem though and it got reblocked every three or four months...

David,
You are right as well. The water can get in through either side of the bulkhead. I experienced it through the ecu cover as it was running down the wiring and soaking the drivers side carpet front and rear.
