Squeeking from rear

Post by LHD » Sat Jul 08, 2006 10:25 am

Starting to really worry having read about balljoint failures on the RS4 that I could have the same scenario.
I get a pronounced squeeking noise from the rear suspension when driving and if I push the car down when stationary. Are the balljoints a weak point on the B4 as well?
Car will be going to Audi for a checkup next week but wanted something concrete to wrry about over the weekend if anyone knows!

I have a squeak from my rear

Got it on a ramp as I thought it could be a bush or shock related. All the bushes look like new and its not shock or bearing/joint related.

Finally sussed out whilst cleaning it the other week - I was cleaning the rear boot side window and as pressure was applied to the window - so it made the squeak........

Quite how to cure it is another matter......

I had the same. You need to replace the 'bonded rubber bearings'. You need 2x 8A0 505 172 B and 4 x 8A0 505 185 A to do both sides. They can be a bitch to get out tho. I did it by heating them up and driving them out with a sharp chisel. The new once can be pressed in with some grease and a decent vice. hope that helps.

Thanks, any idea of the parts cost? I'm probably going to have to pay a garage to do it as I doing it on the street is a non starter.
