254 are the US BHP Figures and 265 are the UK BHP Figures. I dont know why they have less, but i'm sure us Brits aren't complaining
Hmmm, its fast but is it fast enough!!!

Must be something to do with whatever has to be done to comply with their more stringent emissions regulations?

cheers, thats cleared that up for me!

stringent emissions, the yanks ha ha! can't see a 5.7 v8 being emission friendly but then were talking a european car so of course they will have to be tight on imports!!!!!

5.7 v8 producing 195 Bhp can be friendly

The US 5.7 V8's usually produce 275bhp and up (275 for the LT1 camaro, 345 for the LS1 corvette, 405 for the later C5 corvette Z06 and a few inbetween) depending on the application. It's really only California that has crazy emissions tests, so usually the yanks make a different exhaust system for vehicles sold in CA, but Audi just made the one for the whole of the US that would meet all standards.

So that's what reduces the bhp on the US S4 then, Neil? A stiffling exhaust?

Hmmm, thinking about it that's probably not the reason for the difference in power, the exhaust may have been meeting standards as it was. I imagine the actual difference in power was due to it being tuned to run on a slightly lower octane fuel, which is all you can legally sell in California (again, due to their ridiculous emissions regulations).

it states on said sticky that the us version s4 was detuned. Does that not account for the difference?

Far too obvious - it's a known fact that most of us never read the instructions...or at least not until we start to get into problems...

Cadilac produced a 5.7 V8 with 100K service intervals and 185bhp. Supposed to be more environmentally friendly due to less use of oil and other chemicals used in maintaining cars. However I thought using old oil was bad news environmentally speaking, due to the breakdown of the chemicals....but what do I know.
