hello and warranty

Post by feeny » Tue Apr 25, 2006 11:56 am

Hello,

Think this is my first post although I registered a while ago and have been reading forum for a time now :)

I have been searching for a car since getting rid of my bmw 330i - and have had my eye on an s3 all along, although I would be lying if I didnt mention the slight detour I took into mercedes c43 land en route...

In any event, I find myself about to buy a 2003 s3 this friday - how exciting! - black on black, original factory satnav+ and even rear parking sensors - otherwise unmodified.. 70,000km all highway.

Its under warranty until June of this year - and my question is around warranty extension. This will cost me $2500 od for +24 months... I need to make up my mind about warranty extension up until June - before the original warranty expires.

The last post about warranty extension I found on this forum is 3 years old. There were yes and nos on that one - and probably will be on this one as well :) So, with 3 years more experience, what's the consensus? Extend or not?

My thinking is mixed. $2500 pays for chipping quite nicely... then again chipping may kill the warranty... but probably not with something like revo which is supposedly undetectable... so the warranty extension might come in handy if the car is revo chipped and the engine suffers for it.

Look forwards to joining the club :)

Warranties are great when something goes WRONG! the question is how often do they go wrong? i haved mine now 8 months and covered about 10.000 miles with only one problem which in the end was so simple to fix, my car is chipped and does get driving hard! some times very hard amazing how good it feels pulling 7 thousend revs! and 160mph looks good on your speedo!!! (NOT ON PUBLIC ROADS  )
anyways sorry as for your comments revo is un-noticeable so get it done you wont look back..... as for warranty i did not bother its a chance most things you can ask the question on forums like this and get the answers!

ENJOY.....

If your worried about warranties and chips why not get a spare ECU and chip that. Thats what some peeps do and if its got to go to the dealers then swap em over.
