Tracker/Other devices advice please.

Post by Gekko » Tue Apr 04, 2006 5:55 pm

I'm considering fitting the most basic tracker to the vehicle just to promote resale of my car next year. Not even sure whether I'll subscribe to it or not, doesn't make any difference to my insurance whether I even have one fitted.

I can get the basic Retreive device fitted for £250.

In my experience of using it once when my VW Golf 4-Motion was nicked, it helped the police find the vehicle which had been stripped clean and was written off by the insurers. The thieving bar steward was eventually jailed for a huge sentence of 9 months I believe. Anyway, I lost my car (had great spec as it was an import), lost all of my no-claims, increased my fear and vulnerability for my family and thought the Tracker was a bit of waste of time.

Would appreciate other people's thoughts and general advice.

Cheers! 8)

Most insurance companies want at least a Tracker Monitor so fitting just a Retrieve for resale purposes would be a false economy.

Personally Tracker is only there to save the insurance companies money and we have to pay for it anyway.
There was a time when you would be offered a discount on your insurance premium if you had Tracker fitted now it seems to be a case that I cannot get insurance unless I have a Tracker fitted.
I would prefer not to have my car back if it got nicked and claim on my insurance/gap policy.

I would also prefer NOT to have some Numbnut cut into my wiring loom!

Are you also trying to tell us that Mr Carthief does not know where the Tracker is fitted

Fitting a tracker makes bugger all difference to my insurance (£34 in fact) so I'm not bothering.

I've never had it on any of my cars (C4S, Boxster S, TT Coupe, S3 etc) and really don't see the point. It only benefits the insurance co's, not the individuals. In fact the insurance co's should pay for the device to be fitted if they really believe they make a difference.
