Sportec Springs - Advice Please
Gentlemen:
Dropping the car to AMD next week to do the 40k service and a bit of tinkering. Was thinking of the Sportec spring upgrade - based on some of your posts - but wondered what the specific benefits are?
Advice much appreciated

RE: Sportec Springs - Advice Please
Firstly go to H&R and get them at a much cheaper price.
W8 PMC is the authority on these, not sure anyone else has done it.
Theory is much more progressive in cornering. So they 'harden' in the corner, the benefit being retaining comfort but when pushing harder the firmness helps the handling.
They will lower the car more than standard, but I don't think W8 PMC has had any problems with wheel arch rub.
Thinking of doing this myself.

Damon,
Thanks for the intro
Although i'm not sure about the title of Authority, i know <beep> about everything
Surprised about your H&R comment, as i was under the belief that as they are only co-developed by H&R, that they were not able to sell directly, so make sure they are the correct springs, as it's really Sportec who are the RS6 experts, not H&R.
Anyhow, to answer the original question. The springs make a significant difference to the overall handling of the car & in all conditions. They are the only springs specifically designed for the RS6 & are to compliment the car's electronic damping functionality (only the RS6 has this until the new RS4 arrives).
Under normal use, the car feels stiffer & better planted to the road. Under more extreme conditions such as track use, this is pushed even further with body roll almost eliminated. The ride is no harder (potholes etc.) on the road, even though the car is about 20mm lower at the front & 15mm lower at the back. Visually they look great as well, as the wheels (19") fully fit the archways, but you get no rubbing on the arches, again even under extremes.
Your sig shows an RS4 logo, so of course the above only relates to the RS6 & not the RS4, as i have no idea what H&R or Sportec have for the RS4.
As a side, mine were supplied & fitted by AmD & i think it cost about £750, but as usual they did a grand job.

Rich, not sure if you've got me mixed up with someone else? I've already got an MTM remap and Milltek zorst fittedRich_C wrote:Good on yars666 wrote: The springs can now be sourced direct from H&R Paul.
Will be doing mine in Feb![]()
... I wondered if you'd be able to resist. Engine remap next???
Rich.
All RS6's have Electronic Damping Control, i guess it's called EDC or somethng like that. This feature is linked directly to the ESP & rather than <beep> power when grip/traction is being lost, the system raises/lowers the corner that is losing traction (electronically), prior to any retarding of power. Thsi of course all happens in fractions of seconds.
You'd have to be very out of shape before the ESP cut power. Not sure if any other Marques have this feature, but until the new RS4 arrives in March, the RS6 was certainly the only Audi to have this.
Damon,
You'll love the new Springs. How much are they through H&R directly??

My mistake Peter it was DRC to which i was refering. I had Electronic in my head for some reason.peterb wrote:The standard RS6 has a feature known as Dynamic Ride Control (DRC). The dampers are hydraulically linked, corner to corner - there is no electronic involvement.
However back to the Sportec Springs, they have been specifically designed to work with the RS6's DRC.

I knew you had the Milltek but I didn't know you had the remap as well ...rs666 wrote: Rich, not sure if you've got me mixed up with someone else? I've already got an MTM remap and Milltek zorst fitted![]()
Rich.rs666 wrote: I was lucky the Milltek was already on mine. If it hadn't been I wouldn't have done it.
I got the modding bug with my TT, and learnt the costs so unless I am 'going for it' and putting a package together that makes a dramatic difference (like W8 PMC) then I won't be bothering again.
