M3 CSL (E46)

Post by BigMo » Tue Jan 10, 2006 4:01 pm

Had one on my tail yesterday on the M5. Pulled over to let him thro and he followed still on my tail. This went on for a couple of miles. Eventually, not to be intimidated by an Mway grand prix, I slowed a bit and he inevitably overtook me with all four pipes blaring. He was gone in a few seconds. How does the standard M3 CSL compare to a standard RS6 in a straight line? I had thought about following him for a change but that would have been silly.

well it was tempting (myself coming from a subaru Impreza P1 background) to see what it was capable of, but those days have gone now. Put it this way, my RS6 was featured in January's (06) edition of Performance BMW at Bruntingthorpe and I was ahead on the standard M3 SMG Convertible (programmed for quick acceleration). The figures quoted for that day prove this. It was however a wee bit slower than the new M5 and a Fezza 550 mara.

Having just bought one I'd say an RS6 would probably take it pretty easily in a straight line....it doesn't 'feel' as fast in a straight line as my RS4, but I doubt there's that much difference in reality.

They are 'only' 360bhp..the power to weight ratio is apparently the same as a 996TT though...

Having said that there is some video footage on the net with a CSL against a stage 1 tuned RS6 and it holds on pretty well.

In a srtaight line fight both the rs4 and the rs6 should pull away from the csl. Cant rember where we were going now (lemans bugatti i think) but I had a good squirt against Tim in his csl on a nice bit of straight road. I was behind but slowly started gaining on him as the speed increased upto the limiter. Start to throw a couple of islands in the equation and it's game over RS.
Too much is bad.
Plenty is better.

I have both a RS4 and CSL and my old man has a Rs6 ! For straight line speed the bm is bottom off the pecking line !! as said tho add a few twists and turns and its the csl all the way !

Csl is a much nicer drivers car tho
