speech module on S4 B5

Post by shineydave » Fri Dec 30, 2005 10:52 pm

Anyone got any idea as to the function of the speech module that's lurking under my rear seat. i've googled it and searched most of the Audi forums but can't find any specific reference to it. it's got the number 4B0035753 on it

It is possibly a speech recognition unit. After my SatNav+ install I researched this, in case I could get one and fit it. Like you I found very little information on the web, but found some which suggested it was only available in Germany (and only in German). However why there is one in your car is a mystery.

i'll have to re-read the manual again, maybe i missed something in there, i wondered if it was some sort of voice control, i sort of came across a couple of references to speech recognition and there does appear to be a microphone in the overhead consol, does anyone else have this? it looks like a small grill about 25mm x 15mm

interesting I have been looking through the Bentley manual, the microphone in the overhead (R38) serves 2 uses, normal hands free phone and something called Telematics, which is a motorola sevice ofered in the US for on board assistance vua GSM, it also includes a GPS module for position location and notification of Airbag deployment, they can also remotely unlock the car if you lock yourself out !!.

The Telematics control module is located under the front seat I think, but is only fitted to US spec cars, I can find no reference to Speech modules anywhere.

Remember that Bentley only applies to US models. Some Euro models also have the microphone for speech recognition for Navi and telematics. The module is made by a well-known auto-electronics manufacturer (but I can't remember who). You can try doing searches for "Audi Sprachmodul" to find info sources (in German of course).

yup but i can't remember it's function now, suffice to say it's not a speech control module, it's something like the headlight level module or some such thing
