MAF - how to clean / replace?

Post by JampoTT » Mon Nov 21, 2005 7:02 pm

My car still makes me grin, but something tells me it isn't *quite* on full power at the moment.

Its had a Stratmosphere short shift (which I heartily recommend), and on top of that, its had a non-resonated Milltek cat-back and Hyperflow induction kit. Its also had a tweak to the map to smooth everything out, and delimit.

Having had an Audi before, I know very well the MAF isn't up to much - and I'm concerned that the 8k miles with the induction kit fitted have dirtied mine, or that (typical of Audi) its on its way out.

Car still seems to have the right amount of "poke" but these things are very subjective - and the MAF is something that would definately deteriorate over time with no noticeable immediate change.

Does anyone have any instructions on how to remove / replace and clean - or where I could pickup a replacement cheaply? I could potter along until service time, but want to look at it. Unfortunately I don't have a VAGCOM to take measurements with (ScoTTy?) so I don't have a baseline to work from to see if this is the problem.

Any ideas?

Was disappointed to find I could only manage 14.5 @ Santa Pod :(

Something needs fixing - 14.5 mph really is dreadful performance, even in 1st gear..........

...not wanting to steal the topic, I've sent you a PM about your short-shift (hope you don't mind !),

cheers, mike

hehehehe

actually 95+mph, and it wasn't TOO poor a showing

1 vs chipped TT (TTOC chairman)
2 vs clived's MTM TTR (TTOC vice-chairman)
1 vs crazy Mustang
1 vs tricked up Escort RS2000

Apart from being caned by the 11.6 of the Mustang, I posted better times than the others - even clived's 340+bhp TTR :)

So... about this MAF. I reckon 13s should be the norm for this car...

I have the VAG-COM but I don't know what module or even what the throughput should be.

I've only been to Santa Pod once and I was lighting up all four wheels (it was cold and a bit humid). It did a 14.0. We should certainly be in the 13s.

Gentlemen

To improve your 1/4 mile times you should stop modifying the car and do what I did....

Buy a Concept2 rower and drink less wine and cocktails!
