Ask jr what he thinks - he sold his RS4 for a GT3 (although he went for the latest clubsport spec and was a wee bit more expensive than his RS4 - LOL).

There is no way you would buy a 996tt after driving a GT3, a much more rewarding drive IMO, the RS4 is a much more pratical car, but is heavy and lumpy compaired to the GT3, are you talking GT3 MKi or MKII because you can get a Turbo for less than a GT3MKII, 993 are getting long in the tooth and unless you get a 993 RS or 993TT , 993GT2 forget it. I drove a lot of cars before i purchased my GT3CS MKII and i really like it, but i do miss the RS4s useability for everyday.

996tt can be had from £55k plus depending on lots of factors, spec miles and history. A good low mileage 51 plate will cost you 60+, a high mileage car of the same age, 5k less. I am lucky enough to own both RS and 996 and in all honesty, prefer the RS as a driving car, I am sure the GT3 is far better as it is more of a drivers car, the 996 is a bit of a softer option, but again is a usable everyday car car.

If I were you Dave, I wouldn´t consider the Turbo at all compared to the GT3. Definately GT3 would be the choise! The driving experience in the Turbo in not that far from your RS4, both are heavy AWD but the GT3 will be a different experience, I´m sure you will not regret.

Dave, why is that RHD GT3 such a bargain for you? Has it got monster miles or something? Also don't forget the 996 C4S, that's pretty near to your price range also. There is a silver 02 one near me with onlt 12k miles that the dealer want's to do a deal on.

Cheers

I'd have the GT3 over a C4S any time Ben, if the intention is to track it.

C4S will be a better road car (more refined), but I'd have the GT3.
GT3 might have a slightly smaller market come sale time, but lets face it both are niche market anyway, and with fewer GT3's I'd suggest demand/desirability is slightly higher.

Agreed on the comments re the 993. I have a 993 so know what you mean, although I personally think the 993 has far more character to drive, in a similar way to how the GT3 is said to be more rewarding.

That's my thoughts anyway.

Cheers,
John.

Me too John but the C4S is more of a comprimise than the GT3 and cheaper than a turbo. I have driven neither but do drool over the GT3 more :D But if I was being sensible then I'd look at the C4S. The car I refer to is at my local Aston dealer and is £50k with low miles and a reasonable spec which I thought was pretty good value. A years Porsche warranty thrown in also.

What is the going rate for a Mk1 GT3 now anyway?

Cheers

Ben

Is it not cheaper just to go for the C4 as the C4S is the same car with the turbo body kit?

in the 993 days the 4S also got the turbo brakes and different front bumper. Not sure if that is the case with the 996 4S as I've not followed thier spec changes.

I'm not 100% sure, but do remember most review commenting that given the extra cost, it wasn't worth it as the performance was the same. They do look a lot cooler though!!
