help boost leak...

Post by d4rko » Thu Jan 20, 2005 12:54 am

ok - car is an S3 2001 210Bhp

when accelerating you can hear the boost leaking from 2500rpm upwards, the car has lost a bit of performance but not a massive loss. the sound is a loud hissing clearly heard inside the car and sounds like its coming from behind the glovebox (RHD) local specialist (not audi clueless techs!) has had the car for 2 days now and after clearing a bunch of fault codes has not managed to log any more despite the leak. car has a new standard dv and is not chipped. the hoses have checked out ok and they have been running through the valves (n75 etc) so far all ok... they think boost is escaping the wrong way in the system somewhere and are now checking the pcv system. sorry for the long post but i'm really hoping someone here will have some clues as to what this could be..

thanks

Well i'm a clueless Audi tech and behind your glovebox is the dump valve. These are made of chocolate and i have had a couple leak before. Also the main intercooler hose that comes up from the cooler to the solid pipe that runs across the engine can slip off on high boost.

Good luck, we arnt all clueless!!
If it aint broke then dont try to fix it!

I've had intercooler hose pop off before now, and leak subsequently after not having a decent clip fitted.

If all the hoses check out, the turbo is also located behind the dash area - you sure this isn't shagged and making these noises? Always a possibility - especiialy if after 2 days of hunting anyone should have found a loose hose!

Cheers

Ben

Fixed !

sorry mk4ash about the clueless tech thing - just annoyed by so many people not finding it..

found it myself in the end - turned out to be a piece of trim inside the wing ! ill post the part number soon, so strange - basically the trim prevents the intake noise getting into the cabin. All good now except i think my external temp sensor is playing up !

btw, i see you are based in surrey - can you recommend a good dealer ?
